Oh no! I can’t believe this is happening back to back for you with the buns. You must be frantic. (((Hugs)))
          (((((Mimzy)))))
Do you think it could be the heat effecting him too?

          Keep us updated!

I hope you are able to see your usual rabbit vet. Or at least have them follow up before long.

Quick linking you to Dana Krempels head tilt info. Though I suspect you’ve read over this recently!

Thanks Jerz. Yeah I can’t see Mimzy’s usual vet until Saturday. We’ll follow up with my other vets tomorrow.
ER vet thinks bacterial infection but I got a dose for panacur just in case. I may put Fiver through a course now because I am almost certain they all have E.C. It’s just too coincidental
How long will he be all twisty like this? It’s terrible! :'(

Anything I should have onhand? Buying towels to wrap him in at store now.

                  Is he able to stand?

Did they give you any antibiotics??

If he can stand and doesnt have the crazy eye thing, I’d be inclined to avoid using the rolled towels etc. If heat is exacerbating anything, then his being tucked in might hinder more then help. He should actually begin to orientate himself with his head tilted.

Panacur is certainly a good precaution but I don’t know about all 3 simultaneously showing symptoms of ec. Possible of course. I don’t know enough, or whether heat triggers symptoms.

Any stress could trigger any chronic condition they’re living with.

I might get in trouble for saying this :/. If me, & I had rabbit safe antibiotics at home, I’d start them on it. In my mind I’d have nothing to lose, everything to gain. (Provided it’s one I know they’ve had without trouble before.)
                      Just my opinion.
Do you think worth ringing vet to find out if this is a safe option?

                          Thanks for the vibes everyone.
                          We’re home now.

He got some sub q fluids, a shot of antibiotics (vet seemed to think left ear looked wonky and he is circling/tilting/rolling to the left. We have oral baytril, not sure on the duration. He also got a shot of acepromazine to keep him quiet for about 24 hours but he’s already up and flailing around. 0_o
It came on fast although I know he hasn’t been 100% for a few days. I thought he was reacting to his ranitidine, now I think that affected the absorption of his metacam which nay gave caused some kind of immflamation to flare up.
He is trying to eat and drink on his own. None too steady on his pins though.
He faceplants a lot too. Really resisting the towel ‘safety bar’ that I’ve rolled up in his pen.

Spunky git, he is really trying hard to move like he usually does but he wipes out and ends up sideways.
                          My poor baby. :'(

Thanks for update. I hadn’t realized you were still at vet. So sorry for all my impromptu questions!

Relieved to hear he’s been given antibiotics. I seem have it drummed in my head that the sooner on them with head tilt, the better.

                            (((VIBES)))

Thanks Jerz. I can’t say I’m comforted with just the antibiotics but after re-reading Dana’s article I’m hoping they keep him in one piece for now.
The question now is: do I also give the fenbendazole to Mimz and I maybe to Fiver? Do I give all three some of his baytril? But doses of the fenbendazole don’t match up…regular vet said 0.5 ml once daily for Pip…she’s almost six pounds…Mimzy and Fiver are half that and ER vet said 0.6 ml once daily. That doesn’t jibe.
Plus no idea how much baytril for Pip’s weight…
Guess I wait to get hold of the regular vet tomorrow.

                              No sleep for me.

Oh, no, Mimz!!! I was distraught to see this post this morning because I cant even imagine how hard this is for you! Im sorry I have no advice, Ive never dealt with EC or tilt but I just want to offer my support. With bunnies, when it rains it pours, for me and you, at least it seems. (((((Big Bunny Hugs)))))) Hopefully, since you are treating it as soon as you caught it, it will be a very mild case.

Oh my. Sending Mimzy (and all those crazy buns) some major healing vibes. Keep us updated on what your regular vet says, of course. I would be asking for everything they can possibly give safely at this point. It’s early enough that this should be able to be resolved. Have they all been tested for EC?

I think Mimzy getting treated asap will have a good effect in the long run. As for your questions regarding giving the others more of the rest of the meds, I would just reserve questions like those for a phone call to your vet, even the regular one you see on Sat. and get answers over the phone. You need to watch for drug interactions and correct dosages for each bun (some meds are too much if a bunny is healthy, so I am concerned there for Fiver) and it’s easy enough for the vet to tell you specifically. Or, does she accept emails? I’d spell out your questions in an email (like you did above) and then call and ask her to read your email and either write or call back by the end of the day if she could. Then stick to the prescribed regimen for today.

                                                Thanks everyone.
Been up all night and woken early by the vet calling to check this morning, so we have a follow up at 2:30. Everytime he moves he crashes. Still trying to eat but I think drinking is difficult for him. He’s a bottle bunny and adjusting to a crock even when provided confuses him.

Tiny to no poos today. He looks so uncomfortable despite metacam. Have to try to get his baytril in soon and I’m scared I’ll hurt him, he won’t take that willingly.

Why did this have to happen to him? Did I do something wrong/lack something in his care? He’s so bony and creaky and his back and hips are so bad. I’m terrified he’ll break a bone in one of his falls. This is NOT how I want his golden years to be.
I’m not giving up because he’s not…but I just feel so hopeless. This is just the capstone to months of personal trouble my family has had and I’m so spent.

Need a bit more sleep. As long as he’s quiet I have to rest. Will update after we return from vet or as things change, respectively.
Thanks again for all your vibes. We need all prayers you can spare, please.

Sorry I’ve only now got on to update.
The vet we saw today was a bit more thorough and cultured his ear gunk among other things. She couldn’t find many bacteria of any kind. We’re continuing the baytril and apparently she didn’t think it necessary to add anything like bicillin. But she did say she saw something ‘white’ at the bottom of the ear canal. When I questioned her she didn’t think it was pus. But now I’m worried he may have an intracranial abscess.
She said we could begin panacur on him and I think she said Fiver too…but she didn’t write down the dosage and I’m not sure what she said. I called back to ask her to call when I got home but didn’t hear from her.
He is not much interested in hay but will eat greens, some pellets and some of his favorite treats like hay toppers and oxbow timothy treats. I just gave him some metaclopramide (vet dosed him at 1ml every 8-12 hours which seems a bit much to me). He got 50 ml of sub q’s today and I’ve been given the rest of the bag to give him that same dose twice a day if necessary. Still going to have to have hubby help me as I don’t have confidence in my needle skills.
He had absorbed the fluids by the time we got home.
He’s laying down now but still seems very uncomfortable. We have to pick up some meclazine tomorrow to help with his dizziness.

I’m to bring him back to see his regular vet on Saturday. I just fear looking at him that he may not make it. Sometimes he seems really spunky and others he just goes into a corner and won’t acknowledge me.
I know it’s early days yet…but I’m so disheartened. This is not my Mimzy. :'(

                                                            Hi, MM,
It’s going to take a little while to see some results, so try to get some rest today and be patient while the meds take effect.

                                                              Oh Mimz-When it rains it pours!! *HUGS* {{{Mimz}}

You probably know, but with meclizine pick up a tear gel at the pharmacy for his eyes, it dries them out and the gel really helps. It’s a water based sterile lubricant. We also did some pain meds with Chuck when he seemed uncomfortable and it really seemed to help.
                                                              Theres good days and bad, mostly bad at first. I bet you’ll see a good improvement in no time *hugs* {{Vibes}}

K&K…what’s the name of the tear gel please? The vet didn’t give us anything like that.
And somehow we still don’t get the new rabbit specific benebac. Can I buy that online somewhere?

Thanks Sarita. Yeah we got the green goo. He hates it but, Geronimo! :X
He was actually doing a but better last night. Less tracking and rolling but he may have had some kind of mental or muscular ‘twinge’ last night and was suddenly up on his hind legs and moving and slammed full force into the pen wall. It was very frightening. So in case it’s some sort of petit mal seizure I’m glad I started the panacur.
I’m just hoping he was feeling so much better that he tried to Binky and it just didn’t jibe with his inner ear yet.
He digs in his litter to make comfy places to sleep. He recognizes me when I walk up to him and comes over for a fuss or a treat. But the big thing is he can bring his front paws up for a wash without falling and rolling. Don’t know if that’s the meclazine or the baytril working but it’s good to see.
He did wiggle away during baytril dose this morning so a splotch landed on the floor. I tried to sweep it up into his mouth but he may not have gotten the full dose.

After far too much stalling I finally attempted my first sub q fluid administration last night. Even though he’d been drinking a bit and eating lots of greens he wasn’t looking well by bedtime and had stopped eating his hay.
So I bit the bullet. Not sure I got the needle far enough in because the bubble appeared rather close to his neck at the back of his head. I was aiming for the shoulderblades, but he kept squirming and hubby was holding the bag and adjusting the flow. I also pulled the needle out before he shut it off so we squirted some out.
As usual there was a little leaking. I put the top on Mimzy’s carrier and went to clean his pen. He rolled in the carrier a bit as he tried to turn around but then sat still. By the time I got ready to put him to bed there was a big puddle in his puppy pad. So…did he wee all 50 mls right back out or did the fluid leak out from his back when he rolled?
He had a lot of balance troubles this a.m. and kept banging into his pen wall. I’m really scared he’ll break his neck.
Lots of hard crusty eye goo. Will ask his beloved Dr. H for something for them.
