Ok. So as most of you guys know we are moving in with my grandparents until our new house is built. We just got our HUGE moving truck a few hours ago and are rushing around packing all the boxes and packing everything we forgot. I am a little overwhelmed and can’t think strait so I made this this thread so I can jot down quick questions for you guys to answer. I would love to know ASAP as we are in a rush.

        1. This question may seem dumb but I have no idea what to do. My maze haven has critical care splattered on one of the levels from when lulu was sick and the cotton tail cottage is almost completely chewed up. I have to take them apart to move them and I feel it better just to throw them out and buy new ones after we move. I think maybe the Maze Haven is saveable and more expensive to re-buy, but the cotton tail cottage is pretty chewed and not sure how much longer it will stand. I wont be able to use the cotton tail cottage or the maze  haven for another few months so they will just be in storage. What do you think I should do? keep them or throw them?I know stupid question!

I’d toss them. If they are almost destroyed anyway, it doesn’t make sense to pack them and store them.

Ok. I might save the maze haven because some of the pieces are still good.

            2. Tomorrow morning we are moving around 12pm (at least that’s the plan). Before we go that morning, I have to take my condo apart and probably at LEAST sweep up all the hay in my room. I also have to empty and wash the litter boxes and take water bowels out. How should I do that? Just let them run around my room with no litter boxes until right before we go (I guess I could fill them up with litter maybe, idk? or should I put them in the kennel right away when I pack the condo up? Mocha gets aggressive when I take away his condo because that is his “safe spot” so with all the noise of strange people with shoes on walking around might freak him out (especially without his condo) so That makes me think I should put them in the kennel. I don’t think that made since. Sorry!

I’d put them in the kennel. it’s safe for them, and can double as a litter box for the time being. They may not like it, but better that than being out with no potty, and possibly getting in the way of moving. they will still need water though.

It will be fine. Just take it apart when you are moving them. You can move them and the condo yourself I’m assuming|? And you can always go back and clean the next day?
I always set up their new space before I move them so it’s easy. If you must disassemble their condo and move it before moving them in, I’ve let them free roam while disassembling and reassembling. Then move them with water dishes, and get them settled, then worry about any pee spots.

I didn’t know you were building a brand new house-how exciting!!! Congrats!! How long till it’s done?
Try not to stress to much-bunnies need food and water, that’s it. Some missed romp time is fine. Get them what they need, get your stuff moved, so long as it’s not out in pouring rain you’ll be just fine!! I know how terrible it is to do all that work but it’s always a greener pasture and you’ll be fine!!

KK: I can’t go back and clean the next day because we are moving 2 1/2 hours away and I am not coming back home anytime soon. That is also why I can’t set up their condo before we move. The house wont be done for awhile, wont start building until the end of the month.

                        3. I am having trouble with my carrier. This is what it says on the Colorado HRS: “If the carrier is large enough for the rabbits to lie facing the side of the carrier, these forces could lead to a broken neck. And a smaller carrier tends to make them feel more secure – it’s a bit like being in a burrow.” my bunnies both “fit” sideways but can’t really stretch out. I tried putting something on the side of the carrier to make it a little smaller but the can still turn sideways but to lay down they are sitting butt to butt, which of coarse, Mocha can’t seem to resist humping Lulu’s cute little butt when sitting like that! Haha! Do you think they are fine in the kennel without anything in it? They have traveled in it many times and I can’t recall them sitting sideways.

It should be fine. you want them to be able to move a bit, but not enough to slosh around with car movement. If its a little slippery just put a towel down

Agree with MB. A towel gives them the option of lying on it (stablizing) or bunching it up which would make them more secure and reduce the space.

Yup I always give them a towel! I made a sack type thing a while ago and put the towel in the middle to absorb and stuck frozen water bottels in it for them to lie next to it. I am in the car now and will be to the storage unit to grab an xpen soon. Their condo won’t fit in the van so they have to be outside in a pen for awhile. I hope that will be ok. But I guess it can’t be helped.

The reason I can’t get the condo is because we are going to my grandparents house before the moving truck will get their because they stopped at the storage unit first to unload all the stuff that goes into storage before going to my grandparents house.

Oh wow! Just looked at my last post that I wrote on my Mom’s phone and their are tons of spelling errors! Sorry! Her keyboard is so hard to type on.

                                      Can I add another question?
                                      4. I have so much bunny stuff here! I need a place to store it! I don’t have much floor space so I was thinking about a 1×1 or 1×2 NIC storage unit. I would love any other suggestions on a good way to store items with limited space. I can store some of it maybe in my bedroom but their are two double beds and a dresser in their and not much room.

Thank you guys so much with all of your help! Sometimes you just need other peoples brains to sort through things for you when your stressed.

AH! Sorry I didn’t realize you were moving so far away!
Glad you are almost done! What about stacking storage containers? Is that an option for your space?

I stacked my hay bin on top of my litter bin next to my condo temporarily but I think I may keep it like that for now since I wont use the litter more then once a day. I started making a NIC shelf and I ended up having space for a 3 grid wide for the rest of my stuff! I am not sure how tall it will be yet. I am thinking may be 4 grids tall!

I think you’re doing great! Transitional periods are notoriously difficult, but you’re making the best out of a tricky situation. So your grandmother’s is much closer to where the new house is going to be right?

Beka27: Yup right next door, only a few feet from their garage is where our property starts!

                                              I have another question.

                                              5. the bunnies now have about a 4×4 space on the lower level as I expanded the condo with an xpen. They seem to really like it. When I cleaned their cage I let them run in a 4×4 pen which they liked. I was wondering if they are going to get enough exercise! I was thinking maybe once my grandpa cleans his garage he would let the bunnies play in a 8×8 pen because his garage is nice and cool, about 66F! We are getting their outside pen set up, but it is going to be to hot the next few days to go outside anyways, around 80F so they will have to wait a few days until it is supposed to cool down. so my question is will they get enough exercise? I will let them out as often as I can!
