I only noticed this today..Molly doesn’t have any fur on a portion of each of her hind legs and it looks like a little around her bum. You can only notice it when she is laying down with her legs spread out behind her. What do I do? I can’t get a vet til next week they are closed now. Her bum is all wet but I think that’s from me leaving a frozen water bottle in her pen for her to lay up against when its hot. She also lays next to her water bowl and I think spills it and gets wet that way. What do I do? I’m so worried about her I feel like I’ve done something very wrong :'( It looks like she is biting at that area..I just thought she was grooming herself before. She is eating and drinking and using her litterbox. Please help. I’m worried.

I’m not certain her becoming wet occasionally from water would cause this. It sounds more like urine scald. Even though she is using her box, she may not be posturing correctly or some obstruction is causing the pee to dribble out or go towards the legs. Vet visit definitely wise.

Or I suppose it’s possible theres a skin fungal infection causing fur loss.

If the skin is irritated you could apply a barrier cream until you can get her checked out. I’ve heard bag balm is good.

Yeah I would think she would be wet elsewhere and not just in the bum region if it was the water bottle-even more so on the face and side maybe. It does sound like urine scald but like Jersey suggests could also be other causes.

Ditto the bag balm in the interim until a vet visit can take place. You may also want to do a bum bath to clean the area. You can do this in the sink with a mild pet shampoo, try for oatmeal based. Ensure you really rinse well and dry well with towel.

Does the skin look irritated at all?

It looks like a darkish pink but I’ve never seen bare bunny skin before so its hard to tell if its supposed to be that color. Its not red tho.

So it isn’t scaly or anything? I would lean toward what the others have suggested then.

No I didn’t notice it being scaly. I’m going to try giving her a bath tomorrow and getting that balm for her and then making an appointment as soon as I can. I’ve been reading up on urine scald and I think thats what is happening. I’m not sure why its happening tho hopefully the vet will be able to tell me that. I hope it isn’t anything that is too serious and is something that we can fix.
