Would the medicine still be okay?

I left Jellys penicillin out overnight so it got 1/2 a day exposed to the light. Would it still be effective or have I wasted it? It’s supposed to be kept in the dark (though it came in a clear bottle…).

Are you just starting Jelly on it, or is it in the middle of the dosage? My inclination is to give it as usual, until yu reach the vet. I would bet that it’s more a recommendation for storage so you don’t leave it out all the time, but for a short term it won’t have lost much of its efficacy. You want to keep it in Jelly’s system if you’ve started so it doesn’t stop and you have to start over.

Thanks Pam. Yes, I think I will run it past the vets. It won’t be until after weekend though. I suppose I’m just curious and really hoping i haven’t wasted a whole bottle. He’s only had 2 doses from this bottle.

Dontcha just love weekends? I think it’s probably OK and I’d keep giving it. Call Monday. That way, if it is OK, he’s gotten what he needs. A sure sign will be if he starts getting better by Monday!

Oh no worries there, he’s only on it once a week and he’s had this weeks. I quick call to vet should sort it out. I was being impatient in wanting to know now. :p
The important stuff is the daily oral meds he’s on apparently. The penG is sort of “backup”.

This happened to me one time. I called the vets office and the vet tech said it would be fine. I remember wanting confirmation from the vet though (I know, I’m a pain in the …), anyway, I do NOT remember what the vet said. It was so long ago, I cannot for the life of me remember if it was advised to get fresh pen-g or if the vet tech was right.

Good grief –I just realized how completely NOT helpful my answer was.

Only half a day…. It’s fine… The daylight is not the problem it’s the temperature so providing it didn’t get over 32C… (Ummm conversion is 89F) you will be fine using it.

Same here. But its a balmy 12C at the moment. Bloody desert weather. Still getting some warm days but the temp has been dropping at night. Daytime we are still in the mid 20’s for now but the rains will start in a few weeks.
