Dizzie is VERY active and won’t let me groom her. I worry though because I see her grooming herself, but since she is shedding so much, I dont want her to get hairballs. I swear that I could stuff an entire pillow with the fur I get off of her. She doesnt really ever sit still and she is very scared when I pick her up. (I pick her up for short periods of time and talk quietly to her so she gets more comfortable with it.) I want to brush her, or groom her somehow, but I just cant seem to do it. Any ideas?

I plop my buns down on the counter top to brush them, they usually sit still up there, as there is nowhere for them to go really.

I’ll try that, but I fear that she will try to jump off. She is my little stinker! She is so cute and sweet, but she doesnt like to be handled much. what would you think about putting her in an upside down box on the counter with an opening cut in it for me to reach her?

My little guy is of the “Please don’t pet or handle me” tendency, and a mini-rex, so quite a pain to groom when he molts. I found that he will sort of stay still if his face is buried in his veggies. So, I put on grooming gloves and pet and pluck him to remove what I can until he gets annoyed enough to leave his veggies. Then, I wait a few hours and bait him with treats…until he hops off. It takes a while, but, then again, so does his molt.

I sit my bunnies on a towel on the kitchen table. Just make sure to never leave bunny unsupervised at heights, not even for a second. A good method is to sit her on the edge of a table and put your belly against the table, that way, she really has nowhere to go. I make sure to have all my grooming instruments (brushes, a bowl of water and a container for the hair) set up before I put my bunny on the table. And, of course, end with a tasty treat to make it more pleasant for her.

I use the kitchen or bathroom counter. The key is taking the bunny out of their element. I also give necessary meds on the counter. I know some can brush them on the floor, but I’ve just never had luck with that, and I don’t like grooming enough to do it slowly over a long period of time. I want to get them on the counter and get them done.

Try grooming while your bun is eating! Thats the only way Molly will let me do it. She will sit for a good while that way.

It worked! I put a towel down on the kitchen counter, got all my supplies ready, scooped her up and put her on the towel. She tried to wiggle away, but was too scared to get too close to the edge, so she stayed. eventually, she put her head kind of in my underarm, relaxed and let me do it. She is a mini rex, so there was definately a lot of fur!
