Usagi is going to be neutered in about three weeks.  Any tips?  What are some of the things I should watch for?  And anything else I should know.   Thanks!

He should eat normally before the surgery. Take some veggies to the vet with you when you take in Usagi. They like to see that the rabbit is eating before they send them home. He will be quiet and a little sleepy from the pain medication that they give him. The vet will probably give you some pain medication to give to Usagi the next couple of days. See that he stays on one level and isn’t jumping onto or off the furniture. Take a look at the surgical site after a couple of days to make sure that nothing looks inflamed. Some vets use glue to close the incisions, others may use stitches. Male rabbits bounce back pretty quickly from a neuter, so Usagi should be back to his normal activity level in just two or three days.

I don’t know if you have any other rabbits. A male can still impregnate a female rabbit for about a month after neuter surgery, so they have to be kept apart until then.

I can confirm that…. Piglet was done a week before the first OOPS litter arrived and 30 days later I received another surprise just in time for Xmas. If any one says to only separate them for a week DO NOT LISTEN. It takes a month, minimum…

tobyluv gave you some great info. Youll want to keep a close eye on him at first to make sure hes not aggressively washing or picking at the area. Most rabbits are fine, but I always caution people, because when Stormy came home he started washing it to the point it started bleeding and he had to be fitted with a cone. Dont let this alarm you, most rabbits dont need any special care after neutering.

Have lots of his favorite veggies on hand to entice him to eat when he gets home. Fragrant herbs like cilantro will sometimes stimulate an appetite. Both my boys came home from their neuter and ate like they were starving.

Wishing Usagi lots of luck and a quick recovery.
