So I am so excited the forums are back!! It seems like everything happened as soon as the forums were down, lol. I took Missy to be spayed and it turned out that Missy was not a miss at all!! So now he is named Loki. I moved in with my boyfriend and we have recently got a new cat. We try our best to make sure that the cat stays out of Loki’s pen but sometimes he walks in there and tries to drink his water. The main thing that we’ve noticed is that he keeps pooping outside of his litter box. He still mostly poops in the box, but he poops A LOT so theres still quite a bit outside of his box. He won’t go on the carpet or anything, just all over his cage. I’m thinking that this is just him marking his territory because the cat had walked in there. How can we reassure him that that is his space and get him using his litter box again?

My bun went through this years ago when I was still at home and my sister got a kitten. I don’t have a ton of advice other than try to keep the cat away from the pen as much as possible so that Loki feels less territorial (we had to create a barrier for awhile until the novelty of the bunny pen wore off on my sister’s cat). Eventually my bun just worked out that she was boss of the kitten (and that the kitten was no threat) and that was the end of it, it took a few weeks but pooping eventually went back to normal… this pretty much happened every time a new animal came into the house though lol. Sorry I don’t have a more direct fix! Maybe someone else will have some better ideas!!

As long as the cats smell is inside his pen, he will probably mark, unless he somehow bonds with the cat. Could you put a top to his pen using dowels and NIC grids or something so the cat can’t get into it?

Thank you guys He has one of the extra large dog pens so it has a top on it, but we leave the door open because he is out running all day but needs a way to get back into his litter and food and his hidey hole if he wants. Any time the cat tries to get into his pen we make sure to chase him away and let him know that’s not his home. We’ve only had the cat about a week and a half now, so hopefully the novelty will wear off soon and the cat will learn to stay out. I make sure to completely clean out his cage every day and I take everything out and wipe it down every other day so hopefully that helps with the smell of the cat too
