Olivias bed is a cardboard house with blankets in it. A couple of times a week, she pees in her blankets. Not just a few dribbles, but like a whole bladder movement, as if she doesnt want to get out of bed. Whats up with that.

Shes not showing any other unusual bladder signs. No pee dribbles, no abnormal water intake, or any sludgy deposits in urine. Its really weird.

I had a rabbit who would often pee in her sleep, and I have known of other rabbits who did the same. Evidently as they relax and fall asleep, their bladders relax too and let go. There is nothing wrong with them and really nothing that can be done to keep this from happening. This could be the same thing that is happening with Olivia.

I almost said what Tobyluv did but didn’t know if it would be much help – the only time Lola has an accident is when she falls asleep on the couch or is getting nose rubs and starts grinding her teeth.  I think she is so relaxed she just kind of “lets go” and has an accident – but even then it’s rare and she usually wakes herself up and catcher herself doing it and runs to her box.  The same thing would happen with the bun I had growing up.

I’d be more worried if it was happening over and over again – maybe ask a vet?  past history of UTIs? I know you said her urine and behavior seemed fine but it seems like the accidents are out of character for her….I hope everything is okay!!

Stickers will do that occasionally, so will Powder, they’ll just up and pee / poo in their sleeping area one day, not do it again for months… then again. With mine it seems to be a marking behavior, from what I can tell (they have been to vets and nothing wrong, so behavioral). I can never tell with bunnies, even the slightest scent like a bug getting in their area seems to set them off with “THIS IS MINE!”. So she may just be marking, but getting her checked up wouldn’t be a bad idea if this is new behavior.

Its not really new behaviour, just happening a bit more frequently lately.

This may not be possible, but if it’s during her night sleep, can you lure her into her litter pan just before bedtime with a small treat so she might decide to go in there while eating it? If she can empty her bladder before getting comfy on her blankets, she may not need to pee so much, or again, before morning. Don’t know how you’d get her to pee regularly there unless you make a nightly ritual of treat and tummy massage in her litter pan, which might induce her to relax and go. Then off to blankie bed.

I will try that, Pam. Sometimes it happens in her night sleep (like last night) and sometimes during her afternoon nap. It make sense that shes super relaxed and her bladder gets too relaxed because when she sleeps, shes often in a very deep, flopped out sleep. We say shes honked out.

Our bunny, Dexter, has been doing this as well. I am not sure exactly how long it has been going on but it seems to be happening more and more. He sleeps in a certian spot on the top floor of the cage my husband built for him, and we started noticing dried wet spots on the wood a couple weeks ago. I put a new litter box there and he would just sleep in front of the box and I would find another spot when I came home and a few poops. I tried making the spot more like a bed so he would feel more inclined to use his box instead of peeing in his “bed” but now he is more insistant on sleeping there all day and I am finding more poops up there now. He does use his box when we let him “roam free” when we are home to watch him, but he just seems to be getting into this habit of not using it during the day when we are at work. From the sound of the other comments this behavior is pretty normal when bunnies are comfortable, but if anyone has any other suggestions on how to cut it down or out I would appreciate them!
