        Yay BB is back!!

        Two questions:

        1) Cinnabun is going through her big summer shed and I was wondering how long it typically lasts. It was pretty heavy about three weeks ago (I was brushing her at least 4x a day!) and is slowing down a lot lately, but sometimes she still has loose hair around her bum. Does it ever really stop?

        2) Cinnabun was spayed 2 months ago and I noticed that it’s taking an awful long time for her tummy hair to grow back. Granted her hair is super thick and she did start shedding not long after but I’m starting to worry. Should I worry? She has tiny patches of her white tummy hair growing back but a lot of it is bare.

        Thanks everyone!

I was brushing Molly’s hair just as much and for as long as you are, and she still has a lot of lose fur. Most of her back fur is short now, but around her sides and bum its still long, I think just because its harder to brush really good along her sides cuz she wont sit long for it. Depending on how long your bun’s fur is I think the longer the shedding will take. The shedding will defnatley slow down though don’t worry. As for your other question, I’m not 100% sure. I don’t think I would worry about it yet though. It hasn’t been that long since her surgery, and if the surgery leaves a scar, there may be parts that never grow hair again. Scars sometimes wont grow hair. Someone else will have to chime in on that one though.

Molts can be different for each bunny. Some do what I call “Explosion” Molts where they just shed a coat in a few days, while others are “Molasses” Molts, and just slowly shed over weeks or even a couple of months, with some heavy molts in the middle. It is not uncommon for shaved hair, due to surgery or whatever, to take along time to grow back if your bunnies fur is between a hair growing spurt. You will notice that when it does come in fully, it will most like just start coming in fast and fill up rather quickly.

After a heavy shed, it is also not uncommon for molting to be finishing up around the tail and sides (Can look like a skirt in some bunnies LOL). I think that has to do with what they can reach themselves with their own grooming.

If this is your bunnies first molt, it is normal for it to be rather excessive. The first ones normally are.

Mocha always has a skirt. Isn’t it normal for Holland lops?

Don’t worry, when my Wilbur was spayed it took FOREVER for her tummy fur to grow back to normal. For months it was literally mostly bare with a little bit of short white fur, I thought it might never grow back. She was spayed in October, so it took about 6 months or so but her tummy has turned back into its normal fluffiness (something I didn’t realize until I was clipping her nails yesterday). Just give it more time

Otto’s sheds last at least 1.5 months. He’s going into 6 weeks now and still has some loose hairs around his bum that he won’t let me pull out. With two big sheds and two smaller ones per year, it does sort of seem like he’s always shedding. Hannah sheds only once a year and hers are quit and involve much less hair than Otto’s, so all bunnies are different.
