Is there an emergency vet in your area? I would call them asap.

Is he chattering his jaws or grinding? If he is grinding it means he is in pain. Do you have an metacam to give him?
Are his ears hot or cold?
Do you have any critical care you can mix with some baby food ( like mango or banana ) and feed him ( you might have to force feed )?

Just wondering, has he gone to the bathroom today? Like peed? Maybe it is a urinary infection? He really needs a vet.

Ears are HOT. Grinding for about 5 mins, now hes juss chattering once in a while, theres no emergency vet ;( i dont have any meds to give him, his vet might also be closed tommaro because its sunday….now hes laying down but one leg is propped up, and the other is just sagging, Heart rate has gone closer to normal….i am keeping a VERY close eye on him, giving him some space because if i get very close to him he tences up. I think there is a possibility he hurt his leg or something….i really dont knw tho. Hes been acting wierd this past week but he was still social and eating..today ive only been getting him to eat some celery right before this happend so hes not empty completly…im not going to move him for the rest of the night but he has food and water nxt to him if he needs to drink or eat. This a disease? *Im a first time rabbit owner* hes only a year and a half by the way….

With him not feeling well he probably wont WANT to eat so even having food next to him wont garentee he will eat anything…try giving something he really likes (that might not be so good for him…like bananas or carrots just to get something in him.) Do you have a medicine dropper? It would be a good idea if you did have baby food to give it to him that way…or just get some water in him.

I know doctors have an answering service around here….I don’t know if vets even have them…
Please keep trying the vet, If you have to wake someone up…so be it.

Since you said he’s been acting weird all week, it is possible it’s been something building up. Rabbits hide illness very well (helps with survival in wild) although you may have only realized he was acting strange in hindsight. Hopefully, you can get ahold of someone soon.

I wouldn’t recommend anything sugary like bananas or cranberries since the sugars can speed up bloat from what I’ve been told. Try a favorite veggies but don’t fill him up if he still isn’t pooping. I’m very sorry your going through this. If he feels hot, maybe give him a water bottle with cool (not frozen) water to sit next to, and monitor his temperature, if he starts to feel cooler, warm him up. If you have a thermometer, rabbits temp’s can be taken in their bum, normal can be anywhere from 101-103, if it is below or above that, try to give it into the normal range.

Thanks guys….Hes doing a tad bit better. He slept in the same spot all night and breathing is normal His ears are a lil cold but i got blankets, some hay{to support the leg that is sagging} and his bunny bed but he just wants to be on hardwood floor so i havnt been moving him. He hasnt pooped or peed since all of this happend. I am getting him to drink TINY amouts of water. Hes got food all around so if he gets hungry…he wont have to move to get it. I read that you can give them gas-ex? I have a dropper, only have peaches as far as babyfood. Can he aso have Childrens Ibuprofen? My mom thinks he can but i want too check before i give it too him….ive given my dog the Childrens Ibuprofen before and it seemed to work but i know dogs and rabbits are diffrent. Any other meds? Also- the vets wont answer ;( but me and my mom are going to a store later to get some meds and babyfood.

*Update* He moved across his bunny room!!!!!! Well he basicaly dragged his one back leg across the room but he moved breathing is still normal, but whenever i get close to him he moves so im staying my distance. This is somewhat a good sign right?

Simethicone is OK, not sure what gas-x uses. But if he doesn’t have gas it won’t help too much, it sounds like he’s in pain. Is there a bunny rescue around you? If so they might have a vet they could contact, or be able to get you some metacam maybe. You can offer him water bottles on the floor one with cold, one with hot water and if he gets hot/cold he could cuddle up to it.

Did he have a prior leg injury that is flaring up now, or do you have any idea why the leg is dragging and when that started?

Yeah, I’m wondering about that leg problem and don’t think that simethicone is going to help him. I would take him in first thing tomorrow morning to have the vet check him.

As for pain meds – I’ve never done ibuprofen but have done baby aspirin but ONLY with my vet’s recommendation and dosage, so I cannot recommend this.

I have also heard that rabbits with leg problems can heal pretty quickly, though can be deformed as part of a survival strategy. If he is moving this is a good sign, but I would be seriously concerned about him not eating or pooping. If you cant get him to a vet today, make sure to keep him hydrated and getting a little food in him, since anerexia can be really serious in a rabbit ( I took a class on GI Stasis after my bun passed away, it was recommended by HRS headquarters and based off many rabbit savvy vets). You can syringe feeding him Critical Care which is a product for rabbits and I think guinea pigs that has a lot of nutrition, just so that he has something in him. It can be expensive and hard to find but I really recommend you find a way to get some nutrition in him as his body tries to deal with the pain of whatever happened to his leg. Good luck, and I’m glad to hear he is doing better.
