How do you deal with bonded bunnies role reversal (dominant vs submissive)? Does it matter? Do you need to interfeer? If so, how?

For background, one of my bunnies is sick. One of the issues is that he lost a lot of weight; he’s under vet care. I don’t know if this is due to the role reversal (he was previously the dominant bunny) or if this caused the reversal. The vet has advised me to feed them separately so we can get his weight up. However, I was wondering  what else I should be doing, if any, in terms of their relationship/behavior. I have not seen fighting, just aggressively stealing of food.

I imagine the illness caused this. There is really anything you can or should do, they will work this out for themselves. As long as the well one isn’t beating up on the ill one, there is nothing to worry about.

You can’t really change dominance, since usually it’s mutually agreed upon. Likely caused by the illness. I would check over the ill bunny now and then for any signs of harm, ie. biting, fur loss, so you’re sure it hasn’t gone beyond food theft. Otherwise, they set their own relationship rules.
