What nail clippers do you all recommend? I have bought several different kinds from Petsmart and have not been over thrilled with them. Thanks!

I use nail clippers that look like scissors and are specifically made for cat nails. I use them for all of my smaller pets; birds, cats, dogs, etc. I really don’t like to use anything else.

I use wire cutters similar to these ones:

            http://www.amazon.com/BeadSmith-PL410-Flex-Wire-Cutter/dp/B000THKYF0

Can be found at any hardware store for under $10. May also be called pliers, cutters, clippers. (I think it was called diagonal pliers at Lowes for me; and cost about $7 Cdn.)

Stays sharp and gets the job done quickly.

I use the ones that are like scissors and meant for small animals (ferrets, cats, etc).

I use the scissor type as well. They seem to work well!

You have to make sure that they have a curved tip so it doesn’t shatter the nail.

I just recently used people clippers with a spring on them… they worked GREAT! I found when i used the scissor ones it kind of bent the nail. But with the people clippers it cut the nail really good.

I use the scissor type as well, if you cut in one clean, firm snip the nail comes right off. If you hesitate I learned that they tend to bend the nail though, my boyfriend always hesitates cause he is scared to hurt them, so he’s not allowed to do the clipping.

I have used people toe nail clippers on the younger buns, as their nails fit in them (which I love using). But my older buns nails are too thick to fit in them. I have been using the scissor type pair and I find they aren’t staying sharp enough. I also hate that the back part of the clipper sits “back” from the front part. Does that makes sense? That is why I love human nail clippers as both blades line up together.

The only issue I have with straight blades is that it can cause a split in the nail since the nail isn’t being cut all at once like it is with curved nail clippers.  So be careful with these kind.

I use the little round scissors like Mocha showed in her reply.

But she also posted a link to these in another thread and I thought it looked interesting:

I use a “Gentle paws” grinding tool. It takes longer to file down then cut but my rabbit seems more relaxed having me grind his rather than cut.

I hold it on 3 seconds take it of  5 secs. I do it about 6-7 times like that and then the nail is perfect.

                            Here’s what it looks like:
