Hi there I bought my bunny sunshine 2 months ago a cottontail cottage so that when she is out for play time she can play inside of it. The fact is she never played in it. So since I had left over NIC Cubes left I decided to make her current cage bigger and put her cottontail cottage in her house. I did that 6 days ago. Since I made her cage bigger she wont come out of it she loves her cottontail cottage she wont come out of it she loves running on all the levels and loves to chew it. My question is Is this normal that she doesn’t come out of her cage? I am very happy she loves her improved cage and her cottontail cottage.

That sounds really nice that she has an improved cage! I would consider it normal for your rabbit to not want to get out of her cage; especially if it’s as big as I imagine (from what you said) and she loves it too much to leave. But somtimes, you need to get her out once in a while so she can explore more places and excercise in even larger (bunny-proof) areas. Out of the 5 rabbits that I have, one of them never likes to leave the cage, and runs away when anyone tries to pick her up. So, I decided to take her out everyday and spend more time with my rabbit. Eventually, she got so used to me that everytime I came near, she wants to get out.
So, it is nice and normal that your rabbit loves her home, but time outside of the cage would benefit her as well.

She lives in my bedroom and my bedroom is bunny proof and I allow her in the hallway where it is bunny proof. She will comeout at night before we go to bed if I shut my bedroom door. She loves to nuggle with me under my fleece blanket I am probably thinking I will have to do this during the day!

Try tempting her out of the cage, it sounds like she’s just found an obsession and is quite content to stay there now. You could try feeding her veggies or pellets outside the cage though to get her to come out. Or treats coax her, like with craisins or something. During the day my two prefer to nap in their own spaces and getting them to leave them is near impossible. Evenings though they like to run around.

Hmm.. tough situation. Leave the door open and tempt her with some treats and toys outside her cage. One thing used to intrigue Panda, that was my singing. He would be in his cage and I would sing, and he would come out. Maybe try it. Good Luck! Keep us posted please!

You can try feeding her outside her pen. Sam would stay in her pen and under my bed all day if I let her, but I make her come out to the kitchen for pellets now.

Nova sleeps in a box that can’t be more than 1ft by 2ft. She literally spends 8-12 hours of the day in that thing. She, being a (somewhat) normal rabbit, is most active in the morning and evening. Does Sunshine have free roam all the time, or only during awake hours for normal humans? After Nova is done sleeping in her box and has her 2 hours or so of eating and other activities, she moves about 3ft out of it to sit under the TV until morning, where she is awake and active for about 2-4 hours again until I leave for school (where she then climbs onto my bed and plays Skyrim for a few hours!).

I let sunshineout about 3-4 hours a day out of her cage. She doesn’t have free roam of the house. She is allowed anywhere in my bedroom and the hall way. These are the bunny proof areas. She is allowed in the bathroom doesn’t seem to go in there as much. I wish Sunshine could have free roam of the whole house it just isn’t possible at this point. She does have a very large cage.

Sunshine is active at 6 am this is when i am sleeping and some morning I don’t get up even if I hear her because I don’t want to get into this routine of her expecting this everyday. I get up at 7:30 and I have to tend to my disabled rabbit first for about a half hour then I get my coffee eat something quick then I tend to sunshine and exercise her for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. I did noticed last night I closed my bedroom door and me and her nuggled underneath my blanket on the floor for almost an hour. I might have to do this more often!
