Those with rabbits that need their teeth trimmed, how often do you get it done? I had his teeth trimmed the first time Feb. 16th, and then I had them grinded down Feb. 29th because they were overgrown again. I looked at his teeth tonight and its already grown so much, at this rate they will have to be cut again next week.

Are they his incisors or molars? I’m guessing incisors b/c you said you can see them, but you said they were “grinded” on the 29th (which is typically done with the molars). I’m not sure how often they’ll need to be trimmed, it varies, but it seems pretty quick to already be overgrown in less than a week. I’d recommend you take him back in to the vet this week so they can see the rate of growth in a short time.

I agree with Beka – I only have experience with molars, not incisors. It could be that his incisors are misaligned and you may need to discuss with your vet about removing them – that is pretty common practice with incisors.

Rabbits can typically adjust just fine with no incisors. It is obviously a higher cost up front because it’s a surgical procedure, but depending on what you’re paying for tooth trims, and if you have to go 1-2 times a month, it will more than pay for itself in a short period.

Obviously, the first concern should be his health and well-being, not the cost, but realistically, I understand that cost plays a large role in determining treatment.

We talked last night about talking to the vet about incisor removal, I think we are going to see about doing it. I love Goblin so much and I don’t want to put him in more pain but trips to the vet twice a month for incisor clippings/grindings are really stressful for him and expensive for us.

And its just his incisors, they did a grinding to grind down his top incisors and to check the back teeth, and the grinding was “only” $120 but I felt so bad for him because he was so stressed out a mess over it because he had to be force fed critical care at the vet ( well, he was loopy still when they fed him but ).
