I was thinking of getting this:

        http://www.petco.com/product/5874/P…-Pens.aspx

        In the smallest height…

However, although Penelope is tiny, she’s an amazing Jumper.

I was thinking of getting her a dog crate, instead because those have roofs… Plus, the cat wouldn’t be tempted to jump in.

Definitely not, she’ll hop right over the side. A dog crate is okay, but not to be shut in the entire day. She would need 4+ hours of out of cage time to exercise and play daily. Xpens are preferred as they give plenty of space, and are easy for you to get into as well.

24 inch is way too short, my x-pen is *30* inches and when I am in the room and he *REALLY* wants my attention he puts his front feet around the bars and pulls himself up to the top to make sure I know he is there and he wants head rubs or to be let out.

My two can jump thirty inch gates, 4 and 6lb buns but good jumpers.

                  So thirty inches is bad…
                  Oh, boy.

You need a MINIMUM of 36 inches, but if she is an excessive jumper, they also make 42 and 48 inch pens. 24 inches (and 30) are definitely too short and not recommended.

I would also recommend that whatever pen you get, it has a walk-through door so can can step inside to feed/clean without having to dismantle the side of the pen every time. Midwest has great pens and some include a walk-through door. Mine were purchased at PetSmart.

Here’s a pic of my xpen set-up (this is 2 pens combined for a total space of 4×8 feet), and you can see how the door opens.  It obviously makes it easier for exercise time too because they can come and go to use the litterboxes or eat.

I think i’m getting plegiglass or coroplast to put on top of the pen…

To create a top to keep the cats out? That might work. You’d need clips to attach so it could be removed for cleaning… and make sure it’s still open by the door area so the door can swing open freely. I’m guessing plexiglass would be way more expensive than coroplast, so I’d start there first.

I prefer having the xpen top open because I can still reach down and pet the buns when they are penned up (they stand up so I can reach them or give treats), but I know with cats in the house sometimes you need to make concessions.

I think I’ll go with the 36″ with no hand made cover, but i’ll add the cover if needed
I never wanted anything too tall because it’ss look too conspicous…
Penny (5 months old) can easily jump onto my mom’s 20″ bed and when she’s older, 30″ may be too easy of a jump.

EDIT: Oh, yeah! I totally forgot I had a cat at the moment! Oh, i’ll have to make a top…

I have that same exact pen from Petco and I really love it! The door is nice on it…I keep it open when I am in the room and Jenner will hop in and out of it.

you don’t necessarily need a top because of a cat. How do they interact now? Does your cat want to be where the bunny is?

Hoppy has a dog crate that is for Large breeds, its the best cage I could find, I even wrapped it with chicken wire so he couldn’t make a big mess with his hay since it has big openings and Hay went everywhere. For the floor I had a slab of concrete board that they use in bathrooms as drywall that doesn’t mold which is easy to clean too. I just had them cut it to the measurements of the bottom of the cage so that it was solid. The tray that comes in a dog cage is plastic so it would be chewed easily. I have a picture posted somewhere around here of his cage if you want to view it click on my posts and search for it.

I eventually decided on an NIC cage set up because we have 3 cats and 2 dogs – and I didn’t want to set anyone up for disater – it was just a safer option for us.
