Today he was eating his poop-NO theses were NOT cecotropes! I thought well he could be blind because I put his pellets on the ground, and he may think they’re pellets.? And when he runs he sometimes he will hit the pen side! I am really worried. Can a vet determine if he’s blind? i did a ”test”. I raised my hand above him, he didn’t seem to noticce.. and when I got in the pen  he didn’t come examine me or come up to me. Could he be blind? I am reaallly worried! Please help! Thanks

If he was eating his poop, it’s possible he has been missing something in his diet. I would not suspect that he would be blind. He would have a cloudy look to his eyes if he had cataracts.

Sarita: I just haven’t been feeding many veggies because I don’t want it to hurt his stomach cause he’s never had hem before. I am taking it one-veggie-at-a-time type thing.

Totally understand and you should and probably once he gets a more nutritious diet, he won’t be eating his fecal pellets.

It doesn’t sound like there’s anything unusual going on with his eyesight, but if you are worried, a vet will be able to tell you. Taking him to the vet wouldn’t be a bad idea anyways as a well-bunny checkup and to establish his health before a neuter.

Bunnies are herbivorous prey animals, so their eyes are dedicated to watching out for predators not looking at their food. Do to eye placement no bunny can see what they are eating. They use their noses to decide what to eat and what not to eat.

Poop eating is more likely to be a sign of digestive problems than eyesight problems.

Bunnies eat by smell anyway – their eyes aren’t really positioned to see what they’re eating, so they know the difference between poop and pellets by smell alone.
