The last couple days Theodore has been progressing rapidly in opening up. Yesterday he got brave enough to roam the rabbit room with me in there and today he binkied for the first time! He also kept coming up to me for treats…but then he did something weird.

First he kept digging at my shirt when I was laying on my stomach. No big deal, but then he starts going for my arm and nipping it lightly. And then he randomly squirted pee behind him…gross. I immediately started herding him back into his cage and he kept flinging drops of pee on the carpet. *sigh* What the heck did he do that for? He hadn’t sprayed since the first day I had him, and has gone in his litterbox consistently. The only thing I can think of is that I cleaned out the foster cage before letting him run around and I was holding mama and the babies. He was neutered just a few days ago so maybe he got a little…excited?

Any ideas? All I know is that it was gross and I’d prefer there be no more pee-squirting…at LEAST on the carpet. Ugh.

Is he neutered? Sounds like he was marking his territory.

….and I was holding mama and the babies.

Since he was just neutered and it will take a month or so for his hormones to die down (they may even surge a bit before they die down), then the scent of female rabbit on you (or any rabbit for that matter) may have been the key to why he did this.  Especially since he was nipping a bit at your arm.  I am sure when you were holding the bunnies, the scent is also on your arm. You may want to wash your hands or have a towel over your arms and chest/stomach when holding the babies and mama if you plan on petting your other bunny afterward .

He’s probably marking you since you smell like the other rabbits. I have to use different brooms for different rabbits otherwise just the scent from the other rabbit sets one of the buns into a poop frenzy. And he’s been neutered for almost a year :/
