His favorite place was under my chair – I thought it was cute, Buck loved mommy’s chair… aww.

Then I tried to get him out by lifting the whole chair up and he’s chewed so much underneath! I don’t actually live with Buck – he lives with the boyfriend who I actually made this for but never uses it. But so I sprayed some of his cologne (on Wednesday night) that he never uses under the chair and around it on the outside and I’m hoping this works – but we’ll see tonight if there’s been any more damage done. He has a bunch of his own stuff – still waiting for the maze though – but he’s always wanting to be under there and I really hope I can find a new toy this week to distract him.

He also chewed through his 5th wire on Wednesday and I’m so sick of it that we’re finally going to get nic cubes to block off the whole tv set up area! I don’t want him to get hurt and I hope he’ll learn to stay away. I don’t want to leave it up all the time, I just want him to learn to be a good boy. Maybe if the spaying works under the chair I’ll spray around the TV.

But it’s so much easier if he just learns instead of me stinking up the whole apt. to prevent him from getting places.

I’ll let you guys know if the perfume works tonight – but any suggestions are welcome! I love my recliner and won’t get rid of it to stop the chewing – he likes it too. Comes up there with me when I’m reading my nook with Rex(my dog) It’s awesome!

I would be careful of him getting under the recliner – I’ve heard of rabbits getting injured when they were under the recliner and the owner reclined…

Of course. I’m not trying to hurt my bun – just get him to stop chewing and if he doesn’t want to be under there he can’t chew it.

I would line the recliner bottom with something – a ruffle attached to some wood wouldn’t look bad and would block him getting under there. The chairs do move when they change position and can kill animals who get underneath them if you don’t know they are there.

For wires, you can buy tubes to place them in, so you don’t have to block the entire area. Rabbits feel it perfectly natural to chew wires and you aren’t likely to stop that.

Well, it’s good that you are cautious. No one here is saying you aren’t and that you are trying to hurt your rabbit either – just cautioning you in case you weren’t aware, but I’m glad you are.

No one is trying to offend you. Those of us who work closely with animals in rescue, or vets offices, etc have seen lots of injuries from common household items that the owners weren’t aware of, even if to you it seems like it would be common sense. So, we would rather offer advice that may not be needed, than have an animal perhaps be injured – you would be surprised how many things people can overlook. I know one person who let their bird sit on their shoulder when cooking, never thinking “hey, you know, that pan is hot, maybe not a good idea” and her bird ended up with bad burns when he jumped off. Vets see people who recline on their animals come in all the time (well, more often than they would like), not thinking about all the moving parts under the chair. It isn’t meant to offend, merely to point out something some people may not be aware of.

And I did offer my idea on keeping him out from under as well. All my furniture is lined in very light, thin wood and in some places covered up by fabric so it doesn’t show. It works well. Takes a little work to find fabric to match sometimes though… especially if the pattern isn’t just a solid color. Powder ripped up my beds box springs before I realized he had a liking for the stuff they line furniture with. lol

Offending posts have been deleted. Going forward, please keep this thread out of the snarky zone.

The reclining point has been made. Sounds like Mr. Buck has that under control, however, the suggestions and cautions provided will be helpful to anyone reading this thread. Including me as I will add Stickerbunny’s suggestion to the Bunny Proofing page in the section about recliners.

So let’s move forward and binky on!

                      Helloworld!!
