so there has been a change in plans and i am leaving 1 day early. and i will be gone for 10-11 days. i feel like that is too long for me to be gone.

i have contacted the rescue (last week) and they said that they do board rabbits but since my rabbit was in a foster home they said that he could go back to his old foster home. which is better? i guess… i emailed her (foster mom) today and told her the exact dates and made sure that she was availavle and stuff. anyway… i was wondering if my rabbit will forget me? the foster mom has 2 kids. i met one of them when i was adopting him (we met at a local petco) and she was… nice? i mean she didnt really talk to me. her kids are all younger than 12. im pretty sure the other child is a boy – but i am not sure. the girl looked to be about… eh… 9? maybe 10-11. i mean i shouldnt worry since she has fostered my rabbit before but still >_<. i understand that things wont be the EXACT same when i come back from my trip. and that's okay cause we can "repair" the bond (: right?

also, i have been unable to clip my rabbits nails. would it be rude if i asked her if she could clip them for me? i know i have to LEARN how to do it myself but i just havent been able to hold him or anything. he hates to be held (i would know since i tried to and it was bad…ha. i couldnt even pick him up) and i know you shouldnt Have to HOLD your rabbit to trim it’s nails but even if i put my hands around his body then he’ll freak out and jump away. (and i have to hold him down somehow). also i have tried clipping his nails when hes eating but he’ll just hop away and freak out. i have also tried doing a “bunny-burrito” but he FREAKS out when i simply put the blanket/ towel over him -_-.. so its practically impossible. i havent even grabbed him, i just gently put a thin piece of blanket on top of him ._.

and one more question, what should i give his foster mom? i have provided my email, my parents email and my dad’s cell (since my mom and i are going overseas and unable to use our phones. but my dad is staying to take care of the dogs so he can answer calls  - PS he cant take care of my rabbit lol D:   ) what else should i give? oh and i also gave her our home phone number. he doesnt have any medical problems and he is on oxbow timothy pellets which is the same kind of pellets she gives her rabbits. oh and i am pretty sure she keeps her rabbits in wire cages… which is not good. the rabbits she fosters are mostly not fixed (they are waiting to get fixed) and i am sort of worried but i am pretty sure she has a resting mat for the rabbits.

hmm… that’s about it. (: my rabbit has been introduced to the veggies his foster mom has (obviously… ha) and he has had no problems with them. so i guess its all good? thanks.

Rabbits, in my experience, do not forget their slaves.

I was gone for 4 days, and I came home to bunny butt, constant thumping, and grunting. She was mad that I was gone for so long. My dad watched her, and followed her routine. She was mad that I wasn’t there! You may get bunny butt, but bunny will eventually forgive you!

As for nail trimmings, I would ask how to clip bunny’s nails. All rabbits are different – some bunny slaves are able to clip the nails, some take their bunny’s to the vet for trimmings.

He won’t forget you. I’ve left my buns for two weeks at a time and they’re fine. They usually act like I never left.

I would ask her to show you how to do it, if you have time. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind doing it herself, but it would help you more if she could show you (maybe she could hold him while you clip some, then show you how to hold him while she clips the rest)

I was gone for 8 days once, and my buns definitely didn’t forget me. Although, they were not as excited to see me as I had hoped. Seems that’s normal when people go away on vacation, the bunnies kind of get peeved about it.

I was gone for 10 days this past winter and when I got back and came into his room he was in attack mode ( he charged me and started scratching and biting ) he thought I was one of his caretakers until I was like “hey Goblin, hey, its me, its mommy” then he stopped and ran away and sat in a corner, lol. I sat down and he eventually came over to inspect me then after a few angry “you left me!” bites, sat in my lap while I pet him.

I knew he was being a brat though before I got back, my fiances parents were the ones that watched him and they kept updating me that he was throwing his litter all over, biting them, and making hissing ( I’ve never heard him hiss before! ) noises at them every time they were in the room.

I left my baby for 15 days over the summer. She was able to stay in her home and my boyfriend took care of her but she had to adjust to a different schedule and not seeing me 2 weeks. When I got back, she was weary for a very short time but by the end of the day we were snuggling and playing like always. Your bunny will remember you and be happy to see you, though it might take a short time of attitude, just to make sure you never do it again 😉

As for nail trimming, I agree that you should have her show you, but it is something some can do and some cant and it depends on the rabbit, not the owner. Are the nails dangerously long? Is there any chance this will stress your bun? Maybe you and the foster mom can meet a few days earlier to have the nails done. That way the bun is over having it’s nails done before you leave.

I would give the foster mom a list of the foods your bun is familiar with and your emergency vet’s number. If something, heaven forbid, were to go wrong, you want to know the rabbit is in hands you already trust. If you have a good relationship with your vet, you could let them know that you will be going on vacation and that your rabbit, if it does happen to come in for any reason, will be with someone else. That last bit might be going a bit overboard… it’s up to you.

Basically, what helped me to calm down while I was away was knowing that my rabbit was being cared for, the way I would care for her, and that the people who were caring for her (boyfriend and my mom who would visit and check on her during the day) were making it as comfortable as possible for her. I told them what to look for as being “odd” behavior, I told them how to handle those situations and we stayed in touch. Perhaps you can ask your foster mom to email you every other day or so, just to let you know that everything is going well.

He wont forget you. He might be mad and upset. My rabbits do get mad and upset when I am away so I try to only stay away 2 days once a year. I have a disabled rabbit so I really don’t like to leave!

I have 2 rabbits and share one with a close neighbor. The shared one is a Buck. He was and Easter bunny and is a great loveable bunny who sleeps with her when she is home. Right now she is on a 60 day cruise so I go over twice a day to take care of the boys needs and pet on him ect. She was on 3 cruises last year one for 22 days. Then he would come stay at my house and was lots of fun. This year I have 2 new rabbits and one will attack him if he comes to my house. She can go to his house and they get along he just can’t come to hers. Her brother my other bun can be trusted with the buck the entire day as he is not agressive. When my friend gets back he will be all over her after 60 days. They love each other. They are a whole lot smarter than we give them credit for. I catch them whispering and thats, what I’m curious about.

He won’t forget you, don’t worry. When I go away for a few days my rabbit will just be mad and sulky for a few hours when I come back, lol.
