Okay, so my bun Robin is going in to be neutered tomorrow (2-29-12) through my work, I work for an animal shelter and I am super lucky as the vet that will be doing the neuter has way more rabbit experience (neutering anyway) than any local vet near me and the price is well lets just say it is cheaper than buying a rabbit from a pet store .   So I am comfortable with that area of the procedure as I trust this woman completely and the team she works with.  I plan on bringing in his food (technically he is my “foster” until after his neuter, then I will be offically adopting him through work, as they cant adopt out any un-neutered animal ) as he is on something different than what is being fed at the shelter and has been for a while.  He is on pellets and hay atm as I have not tried to hard to introduce fresh veggies right now because his neuter was so close and I did not want a bun with an upset belly going into surgery, but he has had a spring green mix he liked and will eat fairly regularly (both of the adopted buns Batman and Robin have been a bit picky on the fruit/veggie list so we are just going slow).

So I guess what I am getting at with all this rambling is he will have acess to the pellets and hay he is used to eating, but what else should he have access to mostly after the surgery?  And is there a set amount of time before I can start working on introing new veggies to his diet after his neuter?  I will have access to him all day during his surgery as I work the same day so I can pop in and check on him as often as I like to moniter his surgery and his food intake before and after so that part is available to me (thank goodness cuz even though I love this vet, I’m still nervous)

Also any suggestions on a good veggie to get both of them eating fresh would be great as they seem to not even get that the fresh stuff is food.

        thanks for your help

I wouldn’t change anything before or after.

Here is a good article on House Rabbit Society by Dr. Susan Brown about introducing veggies and recommended veggies:

If they are already eating veggies then they are good to offer after the neuter to encourage them to eat. But if you haven’t started him on them yet, then I would just stick with what you have been feeding him (pellets and hay) as Sarita suggested.

Same here-I’d say stick with what he knows. They bounce back quickly and you can try other veggies soon enough

I just wanted to let everyone know Robin’s neuter went wonderful, there were no complications and he is home and comfortable, he has eaten a little bit, pooped alot, and drank water, the pain meds make him super squishy, so I took advantage of that to get some snuggles in as he is not really a hold and snuggle kindof bunny. Cant wait until bonding starts

Glad to hear it went well.
