My bunnies are young 3months and 2months. Both are female bunnies, they got along very well for the one month i have had them but now the older doe (Brownie) is always mounting the younger doe, so i dont let them out together, Brownie also leaves a trail of poop everywhere she goes. So i keep her confined to ger cage more often. Maybe the way i have her cage setup is wrong – i spread aspen wood shavings on the entire cage. I donot have a litter box in the cage. I drop her hay in it. I have a feeding bowl which i fill with her rabbit food (pellets) once in the morning and evening. And there is a water bottle attached to her cage.

Please advice how should I start litter training my bunnies. Both my bunnies are not spayed. I am from Edison, NJ – can anyone suggest a good vet for my bunnies.

Brownie’s getting older and just doing what comes naturally–leaving little gifts around to mark her territory as (in her mind, anyway) the alpha bun.  There’s a great page here on the website and it can be found  here https://www.binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/Litter…fault.aspx and there’s one on the House Rabbit Society’s page as well over there at http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/litter.html

It sounds like you might be a new bunny owner (if so, congratulations!  If not, welcome to the forum and congrats, anyway!   &#160.  Cruise on up to the top of the page and click on the link marked, “Bunny Info”.  There’s tons of great pages to read here including one on the basics of bonding bunnies so that your two can hopefully live in harmony again.

Hi, welcome to the forums, and to the world of bunnies! What kind of bunnies do you have? We love pictures . Like Quantum said, definitely check out the “bunny info” link at the top of the page for some great information on bonding, litter training, and the important parts of a good diet!

Spaying both your bunnies when they are old enough is important, considering that you have two females. As they get older and their hormones increase, pooping/marking behavior, as well as mounting, will naturally increase and probably will not subside without a spay. However, even before spay time it’s a good idea to take your bunnies in to see a vet for a general health checkup, and also to make sure that they are both *actually* female. It may seem silly, but baby bunnies are notoriously difficult to sex, and mistakes happen ALL the time…don’t want to end up with an accidental litter! Are any of these vets near you? http://www.njhrs.com/vet.htm

As for your cage, it would be a good idea to start using a litter box. There’s really no need for wood shavings on the bottom of the entire cage – in fact, it may be confusing your bunnies as to where they should do their business. A lot of our members like to use cat litter boxes minus the lid (size depending on what kind of bunny you have, and keep in mind that they will grow!) with Carefresh, Yesterday’s News (cat kind, non-clumping and unscented) or wood stove pellets. Hay in the litter box is a great idea too…for whatever reasons, bunnies seem to like to munch on hay while they do their business.
