ok, so this might sound weird but i found this page that tells you how to massage your rabbit: http://www.catsandrabbitsandmore.com/massage_for_rabbits

i tried it on Peanut and he absolutely loves it, and he seems a lot more relaxed.  i’ve read that it can help shy bunnies learn to enjoy attention from people more, and i thought some of you guys might like to try it.

Really great site! I loved the massage article, and tried it out for a bit on Hazel, who snuggled down to enjoy it =) Thanks for sharing!

I do that to my girls all the time I had read it somewhere, and just found this video- http://www.monkeysee.com/play/9703-rabbit-care-how-to-relax-your-rabbit

I wouldn’t do some of that bending stuff tho

            Anyway, they love it!

Thats a great idea I like that article! I know Molly loves when I pet her from the top of her head to the base of her head she will fall asleep if I do that long enough. This is a good way to get her to be more ok with me touching her

Holy cow that’s the most tolerant rabbit ever in that video!  Neither of my buns would ever let me flip them around and mess with their back legs like that!

wow that video. peanut pretty much lets me do whatever with him (maybe because he’s a baby), but he doesn’t like laying on his back like that.

Bahahahaha the rabbit in that video is so resigned; he’s like “Fine. Just do it. I hate my life.” Hahaha I like the idea behind this video, but I don’t think it’s very practical for most rabbits…unless yours is comatose!

she’s like folding him up! peanut would hate me.

Ok I totally thought that too, but I tried it on Samson (who is generally an angry bunny hah) and she actually really relaxed when I pulled out her legs. (I did the facing out, on belly one).

I saw this video a couple months ago and tried it on Totoro (didn’t even bother with Wilbur, she’d be so angry), he liked it until I tried to pull out his legs. His eyes got all wide so I decided not to

I bet I could get Buck to do that in about a months time. I typically only see him on the weekends – so that’d be pretty fast once a week training/tolerating sessions.
He already lets me hold him like a baby and rub his tummy. He’s pretty relaxed as long as he feels secure when you do it.

Hannah loves this kind of thing – I’ve never followed an article on how to massage, but I do generally massage her while I’m petting. She especially loves to have her cheeks and ears massaged. She’ll sit quietly on the table at the vet’s office as long as the tech or vet keep petting and massaging her. DH is to the point where he can massage her and then stick his finger in her mouth and feel her front teeth. lol No practical application there, but he thinks it’s funny.

Otto just runs away and looks at me like a grumpy bun if I try anything like this. The only way I’ve found to make him more tolerant to touch is clicker training, but it’s slow going. I might try this with him before his next nail session and see if he’ll relax a bit (I’d have to do it on the counter where he can’t run away).

oh great tips! Parsley loves his back being massaged and will go into trance mode, so cute! he also loves his nose being rubbed which is odd as most bunnies dont like their nose being touched but he is always pushing it under my hand and totally flakes out when you rub it haha
