Does anyone else’s buns snub their veggies? I will set down their plate of greens and no matter what is on there, they will both hop off. Toby can be seen munching on pellets, while Piper will be in her litter box munching hay. Are they just spoiled?

Do they go back later on to eat them?
I often see my bunny in the litter pan before eating a meal because, well, she’s making room. Then she’s gotten her digestion moving, has an empty tummy and is ready for more.

Bunnies are not like dogs, in that they graze all day, not wolf down every morsel at once as a dog would. They stop when they are full, and come back later. So the hay will fill them for a while (great that they eat it, btw) and they will get hungry for the greens later. They may also be waiting for you to leave so they can eat in privacy. Or one at a time.

If, however, they do not go back and eat the greens ever, I would tell us what kind you’re using or consult your vet in case it’s a problem like teeth.

Not all my rabbits gorge right away on their greens. They eventually will eat them but only Bogie starts right in. Toffee used to, but now not so much. Bobby pretty much ignores or just plays with them for awhile.

My two rabbits love their veggies and quickly eat them up. Instead of one or two big salads a day, I give smaller portions of individual veggies a few times a day.

Bean didn’t like greens fresh from the fridge much. He might pick out a particularly good leaf or two and then leave the rest. He preferred to let them get to room temp before chowing down on them and everything was gone by morning. It may be, too, that the greens have either gotten too much sulfating agent (if you’re buying something like a pre-made, bagged salad mix) or been hit with pesticides too close to picking time–the smell may be off-putting. Or (yeah, I know; too many possibilities) if you’re washing the greens right before presenting them, the water on them may be off-putting and they may be letting them sit until they dry out a bit.

To sum up: buns can be confuzzling.

What type of greens do you usually offer?

Yes, their plate is clean by morning. I have 3 other bunnies that go crazy when it’s “green time”. But these two just look at me like “meh, I have better things to do.” The rescue I use to volunteer with very rarely got greens, so when they did they all devoured every last morsel. There was no such thing as picky eaters!

More like what do I not offer  They get a mixture of 3 veggies every night. I give cilantro, parsley, broccoli, sugar snap peas, sweet peppers, romaine, kale, green leaf, red leaf, spring mix, carrots, english cucumber, escarole. Their favorites are cilantro, parsley, sweet peppers, kale and broccoli. They never get the same veggies each night, as I make sure and vary it up.

As long as they eat them, I wouldn’t worry. Lady wolfs hers down, and Sam eats throughout the night.

Mine are picky, so if it isn’t what they want then they won’t eat it.. ever. If yours are eventually eating it though, then I wouldn’t worry. Sometimes you just have to find what they like and stick to it. That’s what I do. I’ve given up on offering them much more than the organic spring mix because they just won’t eat it.

Quantum only ever wanted romaine; everything else was totally ignored. Bean loved bitter lettuces, bell peppers and carrot, but absolutely refused parsley and celery. Still figuring out what TBTBNL (the bunny to be named later) likes–celery is a big yes as is red-leaf lettuce. He’s slowly working through some romaine, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a favorite–he’ll eat it, but meh.
