I’d like to make a second level in my cage but don’t know which way would be best. Here’s a pic, it’s about 44″x44″:

I was thinking NIC cubes, but how would I go about stabilizing it? I see most people don’t use the connectors so how do you keep the grinds from bending and such? If I use NIC cubes it probably won’t fit all the way across either because of the dimensions. Also, what do I use as a ramp? My bunny is tiny and not much of a jumper. I do not have access to wood or wood-working tools atm.

I’m not sure that structure would be sturdy enough for a second level and maybe not tall enough either. What is it constructed from?

It is made out of powder-coated hardware cloth, the stuff that is used to make Martin’s cages. It’s actually a converted rat playpen and it’s 24″ high. My last foster loved sitting on top of the box in there and she had plenty of headroom.

What if instead of using zipties to connect the grids to the walls I created a free-standing rectangle? I just don’t know how you guys build with them and keep the cubes from folding into eachother.

That looks great! One thing I’ve seen that works well is to just construct sort of a table structure within the cage and bypass using the grids as supports at all.
