So I’m sure you all know, by now, the trouble I’ve been having with Nate, between his infections & not being able to be neutered. I just happened to find rabbit diapers on Etsy a couple of weeks ago and decided I would give one a shot. I just received it and I must say it’s AWESOME!

Just to be clear he only wears it for a few hours at most and if he pees in it, I take it off! I also use a damp cloth to clean his area after so he doesn’t get irritated. It is totally a lifesaver! I’m pretty sure my mom is about to evict me for the damage he’s done to the cream carpets 😐 It has a soft fleece lining and a cotton type material on the outside. I have since ordered another one and a couple of removable liners so I’m not washing the same one EVERY day I don’t know if this would work for a rabbit who isn’t as easy going as Nate though. My other rabbit, Tait, would probably lose it if I even tried haha. For the first few minutes Nate was a big weirded out by it, kind of like when you put clothes on a dog the first time He completely forgot about it after that though. He is still doing binkies, zoomies, and flops with it, so I figure it can’t bother him that much. He can now have more out of cage time as well so I’m sure he loves that.

But anyways, on to the pictures. Between using my phone and Nate not staying still, I couldn’t get very good ones, but you can get the idea

P.S. it looks tight on him, but he’s just super fluffy. There is actually enough room for a couple of fingers all the way around.

So cute! How about using pads for “that time of the month” for one-use liners? That is what we have used for male dogs that mark. Just make sure they are unscented.

I would suggest NOT using diapers unless your bunny is disabled. Wearing a diaper like that will leave his urine too close to the skin for far too long, and can cause urine scald. If he is able to run around and binky and play, he doesn’t need a diaper.

Does he have incontinence? I apologize, but I’m either not fully aware of his health limitations, or I can’t recall at this moment. It sounds like you’ve got a good handle on everything, you’re not allowing him to wear it for too long of a period, and changing it right away when soiled. I agree that in some situations of incontinence, it’s better to use something like this to allow him to still get much needed exercise.

He’s an intact adult male who just continually pees (marking) on everything during playtime, I’m talking 3-4 puddles in 30 mins. And he has FIVE litter boxes in the play area, but that’s not helping. So my choice was either barely ever let him out of his cage or my mom was going to kick me out because he is ruining the house. I’m hoping we’re at the end of this infection and can get him neutered soon, and hopefully then he will fully get litter training, but everytime I’m optimistic his health plummets again.

He should be on the cover of a bunny swimsuit magazine it looks like he is wearing a speedo with that zebra print! My Molly will be looking for a boyfriend soon, so I’ll put her in a bikini and we’ll swap pictures jk

Sounds like you’re doing a great job taking care of him he is lucky to have you I think that the diaper is a great idea so that he can still have playtime. Its no fun for a bun to be penned up al the time Best of luck that the infection goes away soon. Having him neutered should help with his marking behavior.

Good job working with the situation and not just cooping him up 24/7. While it should never be used all the time, I think that you using it for him to get free time, he would rather wear the diaper than be caged all the time.

I do hope he gets to get neutered soon though so he doesn’t have to wear it. Good luck litter training – its the best thing so you can be less worried about him and the carpets. I look forward to the new ones you have bought for him! Maybe you can get him a new one for halloween just because he takes it so well and he can dress up too haha!

Hey, it looks as if he is comfortable and you know if he is or isn’t and far better than not getting out to play. Looks like win win to me. and you will get it off asap for sure. good luck

I agree with the speedo comparison!

I think neutering will make a significant difference, and be sure to fill in your vet completely on his situation because she can examine him to be certain there isn’t a physical reason for his incontinence as well.

You can try clicker training one month after the neuter is over. His hormones will surge than be at their lowest level from then on. Clicker training is very effective as a totally positive reinforcement, and works well for all kinds of behavior changes. I am sure that it would work for you. While waiting for the neuter you can read up on it to get ready. Check it out at http://www.clickerbunny.com

I’m glad you found a way to let him still get exercise. I must say he looks super adorable in his diaper. Love the zebra print.

I know this is SUPER old, but I was wondering if you ever had any problems?
I’m getting a little bunny with a paralyzed back end and have been looking into diaper during exercise times.

                                  Thanks!

                                    Welcome to BB, kukupecpec…

I approved your post (new members must have the first new post in each section approved by the mods), but I will be locking this thread bc we do not allow bumping of old threads (older than about 1-2 months depending on the content). The exception to this is if it is YOUR original thread and you are bumping it up to provide an update to a health or behavioral concern.

A big issue with bumping old threads is that we have had many members come and go over the years, so it’s not likely you would even get a response from the original poster. Or it may be a sensitive topic if the rabbit in question has passed on…

So, all that out of the way…

I’m very excited to hear about your new addition! He/She DEFINITELY deserves their own thread! You will find our members very supportive!

PLEASE feel free to post a new thread in the appropriate section, in this case probably the “DIET AND CARE” section would be best.

                                    🙂
