Hazel’s culture came back, and it turns out she has Bordetella bronchisepta and Moraxella spp. infections. We are treating the infection with TMS (Trimethoprim sulfa) for 2 weeks, possibly more. The vet also wants to see Hazel back after the course of the antibiotics to do another culture to see if the infection was resolved with the antibiotics. Hazel will most likely always have nasal issues due to the bony growth in her nasal passage, but we’re hoping that the antibiotics can help reduce her runny and snotty nose, sneezing, etc.

We’re still waiting on the results from the anaerobic culture, so I’ll keep you all posted if I find out anything else.

good to hear you have some answers and an approach to treat. I think MimzMums Mimzy had moraxella species also but I cant recall what she used for him.

Have you tried having Hazel in the bathroom after a shower? The steam in the air is supposed to help…

I actually have tried humidifying her, which didn’t help much. I did it for two weeks on the advice of my vet. I’m hoping these antibiotics do the trick, although tonight she’s breathing kind of noisily. Not labored, just very congested. Poor thing.
