I’m into natural eating and natural hair care and decided to make a type of hair gel made from flax seed and water alone (the seeds sorta have a gelatin-like reaction when heated with water).

I threw away most of the leftover flax seed, put the gel in a jar, and wondered why my bunny was staring at me. I gave her a bit of the leftover seed and she loved it!

I’ve been reading around online and saw forums with people saying flax is good for horses and some even say they give it to their fancy smancy show bunnies.

Is flax seed okay as a treat?

I feed flax to my horse, and naughty Zeus broke into one of my bags of flax last year.  He got a few big mouthfuls before I could chase him away and he gave me some foot flicks and a tail waggle in defiance. .  It didn’t hurt him, but I have no idea if it’s actually good for them.

Same here. I give flax to my horse- it makes her coat super shiny. Never heard of it being given to bunnies before.

I personally would avoid it, like any other seed. Probably too high in carbs for them, and could get stuck in little intestines.
