Ok, so i’ve been doing research on building a home for my rabbits for after we have bonded them (should everything go fine, i think it will, they try to groom each other through the cages. hehe)

        So, the plan is…

2 level bunny cage. Wooden frame, and bases(floors) with a stairstep cut out so they can access the other floor, we are thinking 36 deep by 54 wide. (decent size I think) and height we are unsure, we are just mapping space atm.

My initial question is, we want some kind of good flooring the animals pee wont stain into, (smell is the reason, as Simon, our rescue, seems to not be willing enough to get potty trained, he is half blind too, but we wont give up!)
Looked up tile, seems too cold, and not good for thier feet.   We didnt want wood, its poreous and thatll keep the smell there.

We are thinking carpet, or some sort of cloth so we can take it out and throw it in the washer when we clean the cages…

Input please?  and thanks a ton!

The bottom level of Porky’s condo is one of those plastic mats meant to keep office chair casters from sinking into carpet

The upper levels NIC grids with clear floor protectors covering them.

I use cardboard and very small carpet mats (just on the ramps), over that for firmness and traction, Porky also has some towels around for warmth and softness. The cardboard gets thrown away if soiled, the towels go into the washer’n dryer, and the small mats are easy to wash out by hand and gets hung to dry.  The carpet mats are thin enough to easiy cut to shape with kitchen/utility shears, and the strips make cutting straight easy.  They don’t unravel when cut.  They are also so cheap, that I have back up ones so Porky doesn’t have to go with out if a few need washing.
