Does anyone know if this looks like a bladder stone? I found it when she peed on the carpet again. I just vacuumed last night, but it was by my door, so it might have been kicked under by a roommate. Her urine seemed slightly thicker and reddish, but it might have been sitting there for a little while and I know that rabbit pee turns brown/red when ignored. I looked at her private parts and they seemed normal. It just doesn’t seem possible for her to have passed this when she looks so normal and gosh darn tiny down there. It is very solid and I am unable to break it apart. I am rather frustrated. I never noticed her having trouble urinating, and I assumed that her frequent grooming had something to do with her eating her cecals. I won’t have money to go to the vet until next month, but I guess I can call them up again and see what they have to say.

Oi! You called the wrong forum leader-the one with no bladder stone experience!

Ktykattin, I would *guess* that it has to be something else-based on looks and size -yikes!…but the other symptoms your describing sound like there is something going on there. watch closely…perhaps you could empty the litter box and line with newspaper so you can really monitor urine?

i’ll send an alert-Sarita has experience with this and could likely help a lot more than I

Good news, my boyfriend has offered to help pay for anything that needs to be done, so when I call tomorrow I will be able to take her in when they can squeeze me in.

Honestly, if it is not a bladder stone, I have no idea where this rock came from. I live on the third floor, and while my roommates have brought back their fair share of stoners, regular stones are something that has never been tracked in before. I know it seems crazy to think she could pass something like that, but idk, that little rabbit pushed out the biggest babies I ever saw when she miscarried. If any bunny could do it, she would be that bunny. As for the newspaper thing, I will go buy some paper towels tomorrow. I currently have like 3, if that, and no newspaper because I live in a dorm. Haha. I am so happy to finally have baby wipes!

Don’t know why it decided to be a double post…

I would take K&K’s advice about checking the litter pan carefully. I have seen some weird pebbles, gravel, dirt etc. get stuck in my convoluted running shoe bottoms, and they really can lodge there for weeks before falling out. On my rug. So it might not have come from her. (Let’s hope.)

Definitely get her a check up by the vet, but be sure to bring that with you, and possibly a small scoop of more recent poos from her litter pan for comparison.

Take the stone in and they can do an exam on it.

X-rays should also show stones and sludge as well.

She is going back into the vet at 11:00 today. I am hoping that we can avoid xrays, but I realize that is unlikely. It is frustrating, because what I have read of this problem is that there is no real cure, it is likely to reoccur, and it is very expensive to treat. Bunnies are not good pets for poor college art students!

So, that is granite. Haha. But she possibly has a UTI. She had some urine drawn and it is going to be tested today with results tomorrow. I need to encourage her to drink more. I already soak her veggies, but I should also sprinkle a little salt on them to make her thirsty. Emphasis on little. I suppose I should go with iodine free salt? Good, because that is all I have. Haha.

The vet also said that she might be slightly arthritic, but based on how Nova zooms around, I am just not sure. Anyways, more litterboxes for sure. I get one tomorrow, yay (though the yay is more because I get to see my boyfriend for the first time in two weeks!)! She is just going to stay locked up until then. I need to go buy carpet cleaner (I used all of my roommate’s), paper towels, drain cleaner (how much hair do these girls lose?!?), and blue paint (for an art project for another roomie).

OOOPS  sorry this is BB in Admin mode!  Ignore the big scary box!

Well, in a way, this was a good thing even though this was just a stone off of someone’s shoe or something, because it got you to the vet where they discovered she might have a UTI. It’s also good that you are paying such close attention as it is those little clues that tell us what is really going on. So good for you for being so attentive (even if it was just a normal stone from someplace else).

                          Helloworld!!

Thank you BB! Of course I don’t consider her peeing out of her litterbox a little clue. lol. If she hadn’t peed on the stone I would have never put the two together! I would have still been rather confused as to where that stone came from though…

I knew something was up when she peed out of her litterbox but still in her cage. I can understand not wanting to jump back into her cage to pee, but she peed less than 2ft away from her very clean litterbox. The vet did say her urine was cloudy, so in some ways I am actually hoping it is a UTI, and she just needs to drink more water in order to prevent them in the future. Otherwise it is back to the vet again for bloodwork to try to diagnose something else (probably having to do with the kidneys). I am anxious for the call in the morning, and will definitely update once I know more. In the mean time, I know she is disliking being cooped up, but she ate a lot of hay because I fed her veggies/pellets late, and I can hear her munching on the veggies as well. So at least she has an appetite!

As for how she got it (if a UTI): I will try to keep the litterbox cleaner, she is going to get bottled or filtered water (since the water here tastes different than back home), and less sweets! That last one will be hard to follow, and the second one might be why she got it in the first place. She doesn’t spend much time in her litterbox, and I do keep it pretty darn clean, so I don’t think that is what caused it, but hey I can clean it daily, or maybe I will get one of those guards so she can’t sit in it…

You could try putting a little bit of unsweetened apple juice in her water dish. I did this when I was trying to get Olivia to drink more.

Well it is not a UTI. There was some crystals, and as mentioned, it was cloudy. So I need to watch out for sludge, but there doesn’t appear to be any right now. With the addition of a second litterbox, there have been no more accidents. Until there are, or any other signs of problems, I am going to consider this a case closed, with the only alterations being to make sure she drinks more. I will have bloodwork done eventually, but not now.

Yay. I am glad she is doing well! I really hoped nothing bad would come up!
