Is it safe to spay rabbits at 18 months? They are not aggressive but one is forming a rather large dulap (but isn’t over weight). What do people think? is it better for their health in the long run?

It is certainly safe- rabbits can be spayed starting at 4-6 months, 18 months is definitely not too old. Unspayed rabbits have an 85% chance risk of developing uterine cancer. Spaying eliminates this risk, as well as the risk of ovarian or mammary cancer. Be sure to go to a rabbit savvy vet though, where the success rate should be at least 99%, you can find one on the House Rabbit Society website. If you don’t go to a rabbit savvy vet it is dangerous. Here’s a link to a page that has information that every bunny owner should know about spaying/neutering: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/spay-neuter.html

So if you want a happy, healthy bunny then spaying is good choice

It is a very good thing to get a rabbit spayed. It will prolong their lifespan, no more crazy hormones, more calm

It is safe, provided your bunny has no other health issues. The shelter and rescue I volunteer with regularly spay bunnies of all ages, from 5 months to 8 years. Just get her checked out first

Sounds like we will be scheduling some surgery when we go in for our scheduled apt! Thanks for the reassurance that it is the right thing to do.
