Most boys come back from neutering as if nothing even happened. You don’t really need to do anything special afterward except maybe keep them from jumping up and down from high places. Just keep their litter box clean, especially if they like to sit in their litter, and make sure they are eating/pooping normally.

We got our French Lop Midnight neutered about 6 months ago.

I felt bad doing it too, but it’s someting that has to be done.

My advice would be not to pick him up for maybe a couple af days so it has a chance to heal.

The vet will probably tell you to check on the area daily to make sure there is no infection. If he lets you.

And even through Midnight might have been in a little bit of pain, he still wanted me to give him some attention.

So I massaged him on his head and ears and he really seemed to enjoy it.

And I’m not sure if this will happen, but when we got Midnight back, he seemed to have a lot of wet dicharge around his eyes.

I never asked the vet about it, because it didn’t seem to bother him.

Good luck to Nutmeg, (Vibes) please keep us updated.

Try to entice him to eat with lots of his favorite foods. Is your vet providing pain medicine?

                Bring his favorite veggies to the vet’s with you so he can eat right after he wakes up. Most boys recover quickly and hardly notice anything. You’ll want to pay close attention to the suture, and to his eating/drinking/pooping/peeing afterwards. Also it’s a good time to clean the cage/pen and litter boxes so everything is clean when he gets home -this is good for two reasons-it’s clean so limits the chance of infection but also you can easily monitor for new poops and peeing {Easy Neuter Vibes}

thanks everyone! i just got him back about a half hour or so and yes (to midnightslover) he does have a lot of wet discharge around his eyes. i’ll assume that’s normal because the vet said nutmeg was fine! i tried giving him his favorite greens and then tried to resort to his favorite fruits but nothing! he won’t eat, he’s just sleeping right now. when i let him back in his pen (which i made smaller until he recovers) he hopped around for like 5 minutes and then laid down in his bed. i put some spring mix right by his face so if he wants to eat he won’t really have to move (maybe that will get him to eat). the vet did give me pain meds for him, in a syringe. he said one does a day for 5 days will be good. even though i have school tomorrow i’ll be waking up every few hours tonight to check on him and see if he ate his food or not. i would hate to have to force feed him ): (vet taught me how!). i hope he’s back to normal soon! usually he’s all over me for attention but right now he just wants to be left alone. ill let him rest and try again later(:

It’s only been half an hour, give him a little bit. Sometimes they are groggy for awhile. I think the watery eyes is from the anesthesia.

Yeah that’s what the vet said. He’ll take 1-3 bites of the greens I laid out for him but then he decides he doesn’t want anymore and goes back to sleep. The vet said if he eats little to nothing tonight that tomorrow morning i’m going to have to force-feed him. I’m hoping it doesn’t come to that because i barely have enough time to get ready for school (im in highschool and i already wake up at 4:40 am as it is!) and i don’t wanna have to force my poor bun to have to do anything, but its for his own good. I just hope he eats some more tonight because if he doesn’t he could end up seriously ill ):

midnight: the wetness around the eyes is a lubricant they use to keep the bunny’s eyes from getting dry while under, nothing to worry about

nutmeg is great! he is pretty much back to normal! my only worry is that he’s getting used to being spoiled!…well he always gets spoiled. but anyways he has a lot of energy (trying to keep him quiet so he doesn’t disturb his incisions!) and doesn’t like his small quarters (he’s used to having 24/7 run of half of my room), but i kept his pen area small until he finishes his doses of pain meds, he finished 2 out of 5 daily doses. after that i’ll move his pen so he has room again but until them i’m trying to keep him from running around like a maniac! he is eating A LOT of fresh greens (i’m giving him organic spring mix and romane) because he realized he’s getting special treatment now and sits on the paper plate left over from his last helping pouting until i get him more. i wanted him to eat more of his hay and his pellets so i didn’t give him any greens overnight and woke up this morning to the sound of him munching on hay and pellets! all is well except the little stinker jumped over his HUGE pen! i dont know how because hes never even done that normally and didnt think it was possible. he hasnt tried again but im mortified he could have reopened his incisions (vet closed it with glue) but he hasnt shown any signs of discomfort and he hasnt been obsessively licking down there so im assuming hes fine. if youre wondering why i dont just pick him up and check…well..its impossible. he HATES being picked up and will thrash around wildly if i try so i figured he could injure himself or open his incisions that way so ill let him go. hes great and healthy and happy and so far this is looking forward to an easy and speedy recovery! i cant wait to give him more running space in a few days because i can see how fidgety he is getting and i hate to see him cooped up-but it’s for his own good!

You don’t have to pick him up to check. Grab a treat, and hold it up so he has to stand on his back feet to get it, then take a peek at his underbelly to see

Mine wasn’t feeling well the first few hours when we got home, but he had jumped right into his carrier when I came to pick him up from the vet about an hr after his neuter ( he woke up and was moving around a lot so they called and told me he could go home ). I fed him some spoonfuls of my kale & pear smoothie though and then he ate a bunch of greens and went to sleep. He wanted to come out of his cage that night though but I didn’t let him, I let him out for 20 minutes the next day and by the third day he was acting like it never happened.

I couldn’t look at mines suture either, but I kept his box clean and he didn’t lick it and it was fine when the vet burrito wrapped him 7 days later to look at it.

                                     Sounds like he’s doing great!

I’m happy some of our advice helped.

Thanks MonkeyBun, I didn’t really realize that that’s what the discharge could have been.

                                    Good luck to Nutmeg.(VIBES)

thanks to everyone for your advice and kind words! nutmeg is extremely happy and as i’m typing this he’s playing in his destructo-bunny box (a cardboard box with a ton of shredded newspaper, fresh hay, and balls of paper that i gave him so he would have something to do). also something i find comical is nutmeg LOVES his pain meds! the vet said it does taste pretty good to bunnies but it must be delicious because when i give it to nutmeg each morning he eats it all and then pulls at the little syringe and licks it hoping for more!
