My bunny Rusty is a 3 year old Holland Lop.  I just found this abscess on his ear today.  It feels like little hard bumps on his ear but they don't seem to be bothering him.  Does anyone know what this is?  I can't take him to the vet until Monday because the only vet in my town that treats rabbits is closed on the weekends.  Please help.  I'm a worried rabbit mommy.

Thank you.

Waiting until Monday should be fine. It's a little hard to see his ear. Could he have got it caught on something? Is he a single bun, not with another rabbit or interacts with other pets?

Im having a hard time getting visually orientated with that photo...are you talking about the little white bumps? I dont know what those are but as long as he is acting normally, eating and pooikg fine, then I agree with Jersey that this is not an emergency. But IF this is an abscess you want to get in soon so it does not cause damage as some abscesses can be fast growing. Calling your vet to make an appointment should be fine

Do the bumps smell? Many times abcesses full of pus smell very bad. (like rotten meat...yucky).

Keep us updated.

The picture is of the tip of his ear. He is a single bunny. I do have a dog but they do not interact besides sometimes smelling each other. The bumps don't smell as far as I can tell. They're just very hard and dry.
Thank y'all for answering!

I wonder if the bumps could be warts? I've read that it can be common for older rabbits to develop warts on their ears, but you said that Rusty is 3 years old, which certainly isn't old. That still could be a possibility, though. Whatever it is, I hope that it is easily diagnosed and treated and that Rusty will be fine.

My boyfriend's dog gets something that looks like that, but it might be different. His are just skin cells and dirt and fur. They come off pretty easily. Though the texture might be different. Yours look harder.

The vet wasn't really sure what it was. He said it looked like it was just a sore and gave me a cream to put on it. It doesn't seem to have improved much yet though. I really hope it goes away soon.

Did the vet try scraping them off?

I would just continue with what your vet prescribed and give it a while...did the vet say when you should expect improvement/call him to come back in? If not, i'd give it a week and see how things are.

'scuse my manners! I just saw you were new, didn't notice last night. Welcome to Binkybunny Skelley!

He did try scraping it off. It just created a lot of flakes. I'm going to go back in 2 weeks and he'll check it again. I'll definitely get some Vetericyn and try that. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

Thank y'all for your help! I'm so impressed with this community and how nice everyone is

Hey Skelley; the Vetericyn could be a good idea, but I wouldn't use it while you're using the cream the vet prescribed you. You should check with your vet first, since using both creams together could cause an adverse reaction. Better safe than sorry, especially when your precious bun is already having skin issues.
