Leopold just scared the crap out of me! I went to check on them and he was in a bunny loaf position over by the wall. He was gently rocking back and forth with his eyes half closed. Then his head sunk down until his forhead was resting on the corner of the cardboard scratcher that was sitting right in front of him. I went over to him and asked him if he was okay. I know, I know, he can't hear me. I started petting his head and he just sat there. I called my husband. He was like "he's just sleeping". Um, I don't think so. He told me to try picking him up. We would know something is wrong if he let me pick him up. Sure enough, the second I touched his sides he sprung up and then quickly backed up to get away. He looked at me and then shot off like a rocket. What the heck? I offered him a treat and he ran over to greedily snatch it. Hmm..

Was he just dozing and didn't know I was there at first? He is deaf, so he may not have been fully aware if he was half asleep.

I don't think he was aware at first and then probably got startled. And the petting felt good. lol

Eddie would scare me like that too and he wasn't deaf. And, he scared himself A LOT too. LOL I think it was his loppy ears. But he'd wake up from dozing off and startle at the "ghosts" and dart for cover. Meanwhile, Lolli and I are just sitting there watching him. haha Lolli has always remained a bit skittish so I don't think she goes into a deep sleep until no one is around.

Does he usually run away if you pet him? That would all be normal behavior for my Powder, he's a sucker for being pet, but would be odd/worrying for Stickers as she's skittish/runs away most the time if I try to pet her. If he likes pets I would say he just thought it felt good, so let himself sleep through the scratching.

I wouldn't say he loves to be pet. You can usually pet his forehead and he will point him nose up to the ceiling when you do it. He doesn't like being pet on his back and sides as much. He seems fine today. I'm thinking he must have been dozing off and wasn't fully aware of what was going on. It was just weird.

Mimzy not only does this (he is also deaf) but he does quite a few odd motions when deeply asleep that look like he's having a seizure. Scares the hell out of me.
Fiver does the same...but with eyes wide open. Freaky. O_o I can't tell if he's asleep or awake. And if he's deeply down, he doesn't hear me call him even though his ears are fine.
Mimzy, Pip & Fiver...yup...my day is all about them. :)

Otto does a pretty good head nod while he's asleep and often does the rocking motion too. Sounds like he was just sleeping deeply and didn't wake up immediately.
