My bunnies go absolutely insane for craisins like most rabbits do. I have been giving my rabbits a couple craisins a day because I didn’t realize how sugary they actually are. I feel a little guilty, they just gobble them up innocently. So what is an okay/good amount? (like half a craisin every couple days?) Or should I just never feed the bunnies them at all? They already get 1 papaya tablet a day and I know those are a little sugary. I’d like to hear anyone’s opinions on this since I trust you guys Thanks!

Wilbur and Totoro are voting in favor for teh craisins and are looking at everyone here with big round eyes, so no pressure

I give craisins daily to one of my rabbits. I’m pretty generous about it and he doesn’t eat all. But I don’t see a problem with 3 or 4 a day, that’s not even a total serving.

I usually give one a day when they go back to their cage in the morning (if it’s a big one I split it in half and each bunny gets half). I usually give pellets as treats other times, but occasionally I’ll give them a couple of craisins (I split them into tiny pieces so they think they’re getting more). I think they’re fine if given moderately – a couple a day is fine I’m sure, or one a day and some days more, that kind of thing.

Two a day shoudn’t hurt. If your bunny is filling up on their hay and veggies then a sweet snack isn’t going to hurt. I just wouldn’t give them a whole bunch cuz bunnies have a sweet tooth and will eat as many treats as you are willing to give them lol

Just one, or half of one, a day to my 4 pound rabbit. She would eat the entire package if I let her, but I don’t

I am guilty of overtreating with papaya, both tablets and dried. It is the only treat that Nova will take from my hand, so I use it to create interaction. I got some healthier treats, but she is kind of ho-hum about the Parsley Flavored Oat Pellets I got. She will take it, and then drop it and look up at me like “lol, wut?, where is papaya?”. Though I should try some of the hay topper flowers. I bet dried flowers would go over well as an alternative!

Bahaha, bunnies don’t like settling for anything. My buns really like the hay toppers, they start frantically foraging lol

I usually give one or two a day, my boyfriend never listens though and when he does it, it’s like 3-4… lol

I’m sure that craisins don’t hurt buns, but I don’t think it’s the best thing for them. I would never give craisins to my buns (7 year old boy and 1 year old girl). However, they each get 3 raisins in the morning. Think about it~ cranberries are extremely tart, so they have to add sugar to make craisins. Whereas grapes are naturally sweet, so there is no added sugar. If you don’t believe me, read the ingredients list. Craisins have corn syrup, sugar, or high fructose corn syrup. Raisins have none of those things. Sure, the added sugar in craisins is just a small amount to us humans, but remember that your buns weigh like 4-5 pounds, so relatively, that is A LOT of extra sugar they are taking in. Now I’m not saying that they are going to keel over and die from eating craisins, but I think there are better options for treats out there that is more conducive to a healthier diet. Just my thoughts.

I give buck 3-4 a day usually. If he’s being very friendly he gets one, another for doing any trick I’m trying to teach him, 1 for bed, and then he kinda just sniffs them so I reward for using his nose too. Not every day but I’d say most he gets about 3. I’m not worried about it, if he gets sick then I’ll stop but he loves his hay and veggies. Oh and if he starts putting on the pounds I’ll cut back to one for bed only. He’s a good bun and deserves treats too. In the wild – they would have been able to decide how much they wanted on their own by just finding them. So I’m with the majority that it can’t hurt too much.
But Heebie, my bf use to give his chinchilla raisins and on special days he would give the chin the whole box so that he would have to chew through it if he wanted them. Of course the chin didn’t eat the box – just got his raisins.

I just laughed at the image of a rabbit stumbling upon a bag of craisins in the wild.

I have craisins and papaya at home. If you feed your rabbit 1/3 cups of it, they will ingest a ton of sugar.

The ingredient list says: Cranberries, Sugar. I don’t see HFC.

I think it is up to the owner what they want to feed as a snack. The only thing I will not feed is those yucky pet store snacks. I think those are a lot worse

Oh I’m glad i saw this post as i was just wondering how many raisins are ok to give Parsley each day, he opened the jar himself yesterday and ran away with a giant clump of them, so naughty! he usually sits on my lap and eats his 1 raisin treat but he obviously knew he wasnt supposed to have that many and ran away into his box and faced the wall so i couldn’t take them from him, after a lot of foot thumping on his part i managed to get most of them back, naughty bun!
