The last few times I’ve cleaned out my bunny’s litter tray I’ve noticed some of his poop is covered in white stuff? He’s neutered and he gets a bowl of Excel Burgess Dwarf pellets per day and he obviously has constant access to hay. What could it be I’ve never noticed it before?

          Is it dry powdery stuff?

Rabbits pass out a lot of the calcium in their pee. Sometimes it leaves a chalky white residue.

How old is your bunny?  Do you know in weight or cup amounts how many pellets he’s getting?  It might be time to cut them back a little.

I would guess it’s probably the dried pee, as Jersey suggested.

Yeah it is powdery. He’s about 18 months old. I’d say he has about a handful (as in both my hands cupped together) of pellets per day, but this is something I’ve only very recently noticed with him, he has had more rabbit treats than usual lately, because I made a carboard cube and put treats inside to give him something to do, he spent all night trying to nibble his way through to get to the treats :p .. Could that be the cause?

That is too much pellets. How much does he weigh?

Oh :/ I’ll be sure to half this amount then.

I’m not sure of his weight but he seems a good size for a dwarf rabbit.

I give my buns 1/8 cup each, but the girls share that 1/8 as they are tiny things. a double handful is waaay too much.

In perspective, both my boys are 3.5-4lbs, smudge is 2.5lbs, and money is 1.5lbs.
