So I’m considering adopting again. It’s been about 6 months since Smudge passed on and while I still miss her terribly I also feel like I’m ready to fill the bunny void in my life. I’ve only started tentatively looking so far. The best rescue is about 2 hours away from me so I’ve only been doing some online viewing so far. A couple days ago I noticed they had put 2 lionhead brothers up for adoption, they are 7 months old, one is neutered already and one is not but he would have to be before leaving the shelter. There isn’t a ton of info up about them, according to the staff one is more energetic and the other more of a laid back lounger. My question is does anyone have any experiences with bringing home a bonded pair? Should I worry about that bond breaking in a new place? Is there anything I could do to make the transition easier for them? If they did for whatever reason unbond it would not be the end of the world. I have the time/space to deal with 2 buns seperately if need be, I would just perfer if they stayed together. This would be my first experience with a pair, Smudge was a single bun and I hadn’t thought of taking in a pair but these guys have really caught my heart.

Also I may get there and find an entirely different single bun or pair that fit better with my lifestyle, I’m not set on these two because I don’t want to get my hopes up and then find out they are better suited for a diffferent type of home. I’m more so just curious about bringing home bonded pairs in general? I like to be prepared  any advice or info would be greatly appreciated!!

Actually going to a new place should increase the bond. It wouldn’t be likely they would unbond.

I agree with Sarita, I think bringing them to an unfamiliar place, they will rely on each other for comfort. My two buns were bonded already, and during the car ride home, they were cuddling with each other to calm each other down, so adorable!

Agreed – their bond will be stronger, not weaker, in a new home.

I haven’t adopted a bonded pair, but I know people who have and I’ve been told it can be harder for you to bond with each one as they already have each other. Just keep that in mind – it’ll really help to spend a lot of time with them so they know people are a source of food and pets too.

I thought having a single was great until I had a pair. There’s really nothing like watching the bond between two rabbits. It’s not a bond I’ve seen in any other pets and it just melts my heart every time they snuggle or groom each other 🙂 Having a pair is really special and I definitely recommend it!

Thanks for the replies! I’m glad to hear that their bond should be just fine!! Thanks everyone!

Elrohwen – I have thought about it being harder to bond with them because they have each other, but I decided that it’s worth the extra work. I’m okay if they decide that they aren’t the cuddling type and need their own space. I’ll be the “food lady” and the source of nose rubs when asked I’m also hoping to be able to let them get to know me by just spending time in the room reading on the floor or something and letting them see I’m not a big scary human. That was the only thing that ended up working with Smudge, she wanted nothing to do with me until I appeared to be ignoring her.

…well there were these 5 little guys that came in together… apparently they are trying to adopt them out in pairs but what’s 3 more buns in the house lol.

If I ever have rabbits after my boys, I would deffinitley get a bonded pair. It’s so great to see them have each other and I feel better when I need to go to work and such and they are home. The bonding process is so hard too, I would never want to repeat it but I also think it’s so worth it to give them a companion aside from me I say go for it! Lionheads too, I want pics!
