which dog pen should i get? a 36″ high one or a 48″ high one.

i would really like the pen as SOON AS POSSIBLE, and someone is selling the 36″ one (she lives somewhat close to me) and it is 20$ cheaper than the 48″ one. so i can get this pen soon. possibly tomorrow. if i choose to get this one.

orr should i get the 48″ high one? its from petco and i’d have to order it online and wait for it to ship all the way over to my house. it is 20$ more expensive BUT its new. unlike the 36″ which is used (but i asked her if there were any broken parts or anything and she said no; she *SAID* it was in “great condition” but i honestly dont know. PS the new puppy pen (48″ is 60$ and the 36″ is 40$; not that price matters too much but i’d like to say when i can)

what should i do? i really want to get one as soon as possible so i can go outside with my rabbit and also block off the portion of my room which he is not allowed to go in. but i dont want it to be too short? he is a mini lop and he can jump onto the second level in his cage with ease and that is around… 1 foot high or something.

which should i get? they are not from the same brand * in case you were wondering!

I think taller is better. I have one of my rabbits in a short pen but he’s about 10 years old and doesn’t jump at all. Younger and smaller rabbits tend to be more active and may “climb” the pen.

i guess, but i dont want to get one thats too high… couldnt i get some plastic mesh and clip it onto the top of the pen?

Well, get what you think suits you better. You can always pin a sheet over the top if your rabbit does figure out how to leap over.

Part of the benefit to having a pen is it is easy for you to get in and out of and clean and play with your bun. A top would interfere with that. So think of that when choosing what you want to go with.

I have a 2 36in xpens and my rabbits have never jumped over except when I had the maze haven to close to the edge of the pen. my rabbits have jumped out of a pen that was only 28in so…. No matter what size pen you have, when ever you tak it out side you have to cover the pen! There is to much risk if you dont.

And be careful putting things like the haven or hidey houses near the edges. That just makes it easier for them to jump over. Just don’t be too surprised if he figures out a way to get out someday. I’ve went through 15 different setups since I got Bunjamin because he would always find a way out. Including jumping a 26″ gate without help. Now he’s mostly free-range lol. I think he won that battle.

Agreed, definitely cover hte peen when outside. But inside you will want to consider other options for easy access.

That said, I have a 36″ and the only time Moose has ever jumped out was when it was against the couch and he jumped to the top of the couch. Mose bunnies will only jump if they can see a landing spot, they won’t usually blindly jump over to the floor on the other side.
