Yesterday I had olive out all day and everything was normal except around midnight he got up and bolted across the room and started thumping. I don’t know what could have brought it on, the I ly other time he did that we had an earthquake?
Anyways today he has had his door to his room open all day (at least 8 hours now) an he’s not come out once. He’s sitting in the corner, didn’t eat more than one carrot top, hasn’t eaten any hay and is just sitting there. I’m worried he’s normally such a hyper boy, especially when I give him his salad
Also yesterday I spotted a Cecal in his litter box? I haven’t seen one Ever besides the first couple days after he was neutered (in August)
Should I be concerned or do rabbits just have “off days?”

I would be concerned if he isn’t eating and is acting weird. Any time they don’t eat, it can cause huge problems, and it can hint at a serious issue building that needs to be addressed, whether it’s a stasis episode, teeth issues, and such.

          Has he drank any water?

If he is still acting like this, I would call up a vet.

He just started eating hay. No water that I’ve seen yet. He never drinks much water though. He seems like he’s depressed

I think he needs to see a vet. He may have some sort of indigestion, and unless soon after eating the hay he makes a pile of normal poos and then starts running around again like he came back to life, he has a problem. Seeming like he’s depressed probably means he isn’t moving due to discomfort or even pain. Call the vet.

btw, yes, rabbits do have off days. But it doesn’t stop them from eating ever. In fact, they can be little rascals. The other night Sammy looked pretty pathetic and lethargic and got me worried, so I gave her a treat. Like on springs she leaped over and grabbed it. I swear she cackled a Gotcha!

What you described though, not eating, lethargy, behavior changes, are often the only symptoms bunnies show when ill.

Thanks everyone I’ve been trying to plan when and how I’d take him to the vet tomorrow. I have 12 and a half hours of class from8am to 10:30 pm tomorrow, and today I worked all day. But when I let him out tonight olive was acting totally normal! He had ate tons of hay, made a big pile of potty and began racing up and down the stairs like usual! He ate his dinner in about 2 minutes and was doing binkys in circles around my feet I think he’s ok. I’m going to keep a close eye on it though!!! Thanks again it’s so scary when you think your baby might be sick.

                    Glad he is ok!
In case you get into that situation again, you might check with your vet to see if they have any emergency hour drop-off. Bunnies aren’t real great about sticking to an 8-5 schedule when it comes to making us worry. A lot of the vets that I have dealt with have someone on staff much earlier than the vets. The vet I use actually is an emergency clinic. If your vet doesn’t do that, you may want to research other vets in the area. That’s not to say “switch vets” but it’s a good idea to have a back up plan for big emergencies! (That’s the slightly paranoid part of me giving advice haha)

Why you may never see a cecal because you want them to eat them. You may never know if they laid them because they are suppose to disappear. On the farm we used the expression off their feed when and animal isn’t eating. They usually come out of it the next day. My buns go off their feed for lots of reason sometimes followed by some soft stools if they have gotten the wrong plant. We always worry because we care. My neutered male was differentthis morning but hes over it now. Hes out triming my best plants in the backyard with his sister. Read some rabbit books and the little problems won’t seem so big anymore. I personally don’t feel bunnys were meant to be kept in cages. My big girl jumped straight up a foot last night and did a great Binky. She can’t do that in a cage and would have no reason too.

Was there a thunderstorm or heavy rain? One of my rabbits used to thump her feet during thunderstorms. (She does it once, then scurries inside one of her homes.)
