        Hi,

We’ve had our mini lop since November, and he doesn’t seem to be drinking much. We have a water bottle, and I’ve seen him use it, but we fill it half full everyday and it’s never empty. Sometimes I catch him lapping at the drips on his food shelf. I’m wondering if we should try him with a water bowl?

        Any help would be appreciated,

        Claire

Hi Claire, welcome. Yes definitely try a bowl. That’s what I use for my rabbits – it seems more natural than a water bottle.

All of my bunnies prefer bowls to a bottle

Does stanley get a lot of fresh veggies? If so do you leave water on them? Vegetables, well some, have a water content and I leave mine slightly damp from washing. My bunjmain rarely drinks too. I’ve tried both a bowl and a bottle and he always chooses the bottle. (I think he’s used one since he was a baby). You could always give both for a while until you see which one he prefers too. Also try freshening the water more often. That usually draws my rabbit’s attention to it when he’s following me around or wondering what I’m doing in his space. But if he’s pooing and peeing normally he’s probably drinking when you don’t see it or getting water from his veggies.

              OH and Hi!

I would urge you to add a water crock (they’re the heavy ceramic bowls) to his house so he has a choice of either. He probably will prefer the bowl, and more water is better, especially after eating a lot of hay. Sammy does, and tends to be thirsty right afterward. Both hay and water is great for their health.

                  Welcome here, by the way!

We also have a Welcome section in the Lounge, so you can tell us more about your bun and share pics of the little guy!

Definitely try a bowl. In my experience, bunnies who get a lot of veggies don’t drink much water. I see mine drink about once a week (though there are long periods of time I’m not home, so I’m sure they drink when I’m not looking).

                      Hi.

Thanks for your helpful replies and welcomes! I’m going to get a water bowl tonight and I’ll let you know how I get on. He does get plenty of veg everyday, but he hasn’t drunk much from day one, and when he was really young the pet shop advised us to wait until he was older to introduce it?

I’ll a look in the welcome pages and introduce you all to Stanley!

                      Claire x

The pet shop advised you to wait to introduce the water bowl or the veggies? Water bowls can be given at anytime, I had the same issue with my bunny and she started drinking a ton after I switched her over.

Welcome btw Can’t wait to hear about Stanley.
