I’m looking for a good place to take Alfie to get neutered once he’s old enough and also if we need emergency care. Can anyone recommend vets in the Sacramento area, preferably South Sacramento, that they have had a good experience with? We are willing to travel upto 20 miles away if need be.

After having a several bad experiences with a veterinary hospital we were going to, we are looking for a new one. I would check out the House Rabbit Society website for a different one, but this is where I found the last one. I’m in the process of writing to them now to let them know what happened.

I hoping somebody lives around this area.  Thank you in advance!

I know that bunspace.com has a list of vets added by bunny owners and it has comments from the owners about the vets. Maybe they list a vet in your area

I know you already tried the HRS site list, but perhaps reading it again for new entries might locate a different vet to try that you will like better. You can always begin by calling and asking the recommended list of questions they provide to see if you like how they sound. Or go in person to briefly interview the vet first before becoming a patient. One question (and do not ask the receptionist, ask the vet) is whether you will need to stop feeding your bunny before a surgical procedure. The answer is NO, feed the bun normally including the same day. It’s basic and a poor vet might give the wrong answer. If so, run for the hills and alert the HRS. Otherwise, you still may find a better vet.

You can also just do a phone book search for exotic vets. In my experience, the HRS list is not always very up-to-date, and vets relocate sometimes. Another option is to call a few well-respected dog/cat vets who have been in the area a long time and ask them who they refer rabbit people to. If several of them say the same vet, that’s a good sign.

I don’t live in the area, but here is a list that may help get you started finding one:
