Today I noticed Buster likes to chew on the xpen bars. Of course nothing happens to the xpen, but is this ok? Is he trying to tell me he has teeth problem? THere are things to chew, there’s a nice fresh cardboard box, plenty of hay, wooden ring… etc

just want to make sure everything is ok…

edit: also added a pic of Buster being a good husbun

I wouldn’t necessarily say he has a teeth problem. My bun chews the bars of her xpen when she’s feeling annoyed that she’s in there and that she wants out! I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but if you’re worried that he could have some underlying issues and hasn’t had a recent vet check in the past year, I would take him to the vet. If he’s had his yearly vet appointment and all checks out fine, he could just be a bit bored (it happens to all buns), wants out, or just likes chewing the bars.

Not a problem. They all love to chew on the bars. I think it makes their teeth feel good, and they like the noise. Or they don’t like it per se, but know that you don’t either so it’s a foolproof way of getting your attention.

Do not let your bunny out or have a treat every time he does it. He will quickly learn that it produces the desired result and he’ll do it more. Ignore it.

Awe!!! Adorable photo!! When I my bunnies in pens, Jack would chew, chew, chew on that pen! He hated being penned up. It never caused any tooth issues and he never had any tooth issues prior or after. He just wanted out.

Because he would chew so much on it though, it would get annoying, and I wanted to try and redirect his attention. So I would weave wooden sticks, grass mats, cardboard, hanging toys, phone book pages.—- whatever I could. He would chew on that, and though that made noise too, it was more “cute” to hear him chewing on wood and ripping up paper, than the constant pen rattle.

                  That photo is sooooo sweet!

My sister’s guinea pig does it all the time, especially when he’s begging for food. Totoro used to do it when I had to keep him in an xpen at night because he wanted to be let out.

okay, good to know! I just wanted to make sure he didn’t have a lack of things to chew on

that picture cracks me up cos Buster’s head looks so small compared to his body, and Lola looks like shes missing an ear xD

BB, did you ever take a pix of the stuff woven in the bars? I’d like to see how to do that. Can you post one here?

I love the hanging xpen toys from the BB store. I will hang them up kinda high, so they have to stretch to chew on them. I figure it intrigues them more when they are *just* out of reach, and it’s good for their muscles to have to stretch a bit.
