        Hi all,

So I clipped by buns nails for the first time the otherday using some small animal clippers like scissors from the pet store with no spring.

like these…. But they were really cheesey and sucked!

I think i would like one with a spring? Any suggestions that are cheaper maybe like $10-15?

        Thanks!

I use the scissor type with no spring. I love em. It does depend on quality too, mine were $10 but I saw many for $2-3. Get good quality ones I dislike the spring type, as with the scissors it is easier to control pressure and such so if the bunny flinches, its easier for me to let go and try again farther from the quick. Definitely go for scissor type.

Scissor type seems to work best. I agree, just go for the more expensive ones.

I actually have that same pair pictured and they work great for me and have survived months of clippings with no problems so far, perhaps the quality isn’t that consistent though?

I do prefer the scissor type though, I just think they have really good control.

I have that clipper, but it is brown. It still works and it is quite easy for me to use.

I have the scissor type as well, was $10 at petsmart (the ones I got). I did notice that it is BAD to hesitate on a clip though with them, they act like they are dull if you don’t just snip fast, boyfriend is scared to hurt them so he was trying to go slow to make sure he didn’t cut anything and was bending their nails with it instead… so I made him give them to me.

I like this type- you want them made for small dogs or cats and you can expect to pay around $7-$15 approx.  They need to be replaced every couple of years as the blades do get dull and then tend to pinch the nail before cutting.  I am not sure if my clippers have that spring or not though.

You may want to try the Press/press/clip technique with the scissors you have. (I have that cheap kind too.) You hold the clipper at the spot where you’re going to clip the nail, then press it closed but not all the way. Do that twice saying it out loud, then the 3rd time clip the nail.

The reason is: if you are too close to the quik, the bunny will flinch and pull away. That means you need to find a better spot and were too low on the nail. It always works. It prevents you from cutting the quik, and you won’t hurt the bunny and make it bleed. It’s easy to do this with the little scissors.
