        if you have unbonded bunnies!

I did Olivia’s anal glands Monday night. Obviously, I washed my hands super well immediately afterwards  to get the smell off. Shortly after I brought out my boys for binky time. Stormy growled at me a bit when I brought him out which is unusual. A few minutes later, I sat on the floor with him and went to pet him and he went berzerk on my hand and bit a deep chunk out of my palm the size of a pencil eraser. He obviously could still smell it on my hands because he’s never aggressive with me. I’m super queasy and it was so deep and bled so much that I felt sick. I had to hold a kleenex on it for about an hour before it stopped bleeding. I think he actually felt bad afterwards because he gave me a couple dozen kisses. I seperated my boys right after it happened because I was scared he would turn on Bindi.

Note to self: always wear gloves when cleaning anal glands.

So be careful because that smell can make even the sweetest bunny turn vicious!

I use moistened Q-tips and sort of roll them around so the stinky stuff clings to the Q-tip. It’s not unusual to go through about a half-dozen Q-Tips! That stuff does smell horrible  to us, but apparently it’s aphrodisiac to buns!  Guess a person could also wear disposable gloves but that might make handling bunny more tricky.

The trick is probably to find a good hand cleaner, maybe a citrus based one since the gunk is kind of waxy, the citrus would dissolve it and smell nice, too, I’d bet. Or maybe the wintergreen-scented rubbing alcohol. Probably lots of products that would work.

I’ve never had a bunny do what you described, but with bunnies there’s a first for everything!

Oh no!!! Good thought! It’s one of those things you think of AFTER and go…well yeah….but before you wouldn’t have thought it. It definitely wouldn’t occur to me, but makes so much sense!
