I gave my buns a salad yesterday and after Powder ate it, he was lethargic all day, his tummy was tight and he refused even craisins. I gave him tummy massages and today he’s back to normal. But all he had was cilantro and parsley, neither of which are new to him -  do some foods tolerance change ? Should I remove both from his diet now?

I wouldn’t jump to conclusions and remove both of them. I would try them again but one at a time and see what happens.

I agree – it could be unrelated to what he ate, like how sometimes our tummies hurt after a meal, but it’s not because of a specific food, just a coincidence. I’d try them again and watch him (maybe try them separately if you’re worried)

Ok, thanks… if he gets it again, I read simethicone is good for buns with upset stomachs? Would you recommend that if he has the same reaction?

I am not sold and never use simethicone but many people swear by it…the problem with this thinking, in my own opinion, is that people start feeling it’s always gas and simethicone is always the cure and it’s not.

The good thing is you cannot overdose your rabbit on this.

What do you suggest when the buns have upset stomachs, Sarita? This is the first time either of mine have had any issue, more ideas on how to treat them is always welcome.

Rabbits should rarely get upset stomachs. I’m not saying don’t try it, what I’m trying to say is that if your rabbit is having what appears to be gas too often, you need to find out the cause and if it is indeed gas.

Ok, thanks. This is the first time since I adopted him that he’s had any issues, so hopefully it was just a one off thing… I hope, the poor little guy was so pitiful looking and he usually hates his tummy touched but he flopped into the boyfriend when he took over the tummy massage to give him better access.
