If he is attackign your hand, he doesn’t like it. I would not try to pet him unless he asks to be petted.

You shouldn’t pet him, for starters. Is he getting enough run time? How old is he? Is he eating alright?

How old is he? Is he altered? He may just be territorial of his cage.

Rabbits are territorial and if you are trying to pet him in his space, then he is going to attack you. I know he is an outside rabbit and if he is in a hutch and that is the only place to pet him, he is going to defend his territory. I hope you can convince your parents to bring him inside where he will feel safer and get more socialized.

Being territorial of a cage is a common and natural thing for rabbits, they need to feel safe in their own home and while you are not going to harm him he doesn’t know that. The best thing to do is to let everything be on his terms, that way he can feel safe and secure. A lot of people recommend just not going into or reaching into a rabbit’s home unless they aren’t in it. My little lop bunny is not aggressive now that she’s spayed but still if I just stick my hand into her maze haven she’ll lunge at me, I imagine if I were her I’d be scared too. Just know that it’s probably not personal

I went on vacation and had my cousin taking care of Buck for the weekend – he “hissed” at her when she was trying to grab a bowl to refill it. I’ve never had him do that to me so I don’t know what it sounds like but I think it’s funny he’s territorial to different people. He always lets me mess around in his cage and even comes over for pets.
