Is there any good way to determine the age, or general age range, of a bunny?  Google has a lot of conflicting answers..

The humane society didn’t know West’s age.  He looks like an adult bun to me, at least.  He’s not a baby, old enough to be neutered as he’s fixed.  Any other things I can look at to guess his age?

I’m going to ask the vet about it at his checkup, but I figured I’d ask here.  Some sites said the more veins the bun visibly has in the ears, the older they are??  I’ve never heard that!

I heard the teeth are a good indicator, but I dunno – I just ask my vet, he guesses Powder is 4 and Stickers was 6 months at spay… I didn’t ask what markets he used to guess age. Your vet should be able to give you a ballpark answer.

I’ll have to ask the vet what she looks at for the age, I’m curious!  That’s great the vet was able to give you a pretty good idea of their age, I was thinking it’d be more of a general range like somewhere between 2 and 6 or something.

I think there are things vets can see in the teeth – this is a pretty common way to tell age in lots of animals including dogs and horses, so it makes sense that it would help with bunnies too.

Yeah horses you can tell fairly easily by the teeth, so maybe it’s the same in rabbits.

I don’t think rabbits have the same type of indicators on their teeth that horses do. And horses have a broader range of age up to 30 years old. I am guessing a vet might be able to determine young rabbit, young adult, adult or senior- and anything beyond that might be a guess.

Ah ok, gotcha.  Hopefully they can give me a pretty close range then.

I understand the same as Katnip about the teeth. For seniors they can look at eyes – if they are cloudy (due to age, not a medical condition), that is usually the sign of a senior.

Also the nails can be an indicator. Usually older rabbits have more brittle nails than younger rabbits…but again, this is not an exact thing, more of a generalization.

Gotcha.  West has the most gorgeous GREY eyes, I’ve never seen grey eyes on a bunny!  They’re not cloudy either.
