So I have had Nova for a while now, but I didn’t remember her being so grunty…  She grunts when she eats, she grunts more when I try to catch her. She kind of grunts when she sleeps. She grunts when I look at her the wrong way… I don’t know if it is just because she got kind of fat (losing weight is a gradual thing, she will eventually get her figure back!), or if it is just because she is brachycephalic. Maybe it is a combination of those two things? She has always grunted when I would try to catch her. Since she is fat, and I have been observing her eating/grooming/etc very closely I don’t think it is her teeth (though that will be checked at some point). She is def spayed, and has been for some time. It doesn’t sound pained either. Everything about her seems perfectly normal, except the grunting. Is she just a noisy little monster?

I will admit that it might just be me being more observant than I have been in the past. Since being home from college I noticed how darn loud my mother’s bird is. It drives me crazy!  At least her grunting is kind of cute compared the the loud screams of that bird…

Some bunnies are major grunt divas.

Does ChaCha grunt a lot too? I think their faces are both pretty flat…

Smudge grunts all the time. The vet says it could either be just her thing, or perhaps being a bit chubby has restricted her breathing a bit when she bends and twists and such to groom and eat. So it could go either way, really. We’re slimming her down to see if thats the issue

And I also like that as I am talking about how she needs to lose weight, I am putting together an order from BB for what is mostly treats… *face palm*

lol! Go for the healthy treats then, like the hay toppers Moose adores the little flowers in it. He’s such a girly man lol.

Smudge needs to lose about 8 ounces if i remember right. She’s such a bed smudge bug, always snoozing… need to get her hopping more.

Alas, BB is out of some of the healthy treats I wanted. Must be all those rabbits with their new years resolutions trying to slim down… <_<

I got some oat pellets, that is probably the healthiest non-hay thing I ordered.

Yes, the oat pellets came to mind as a healthy treat. I like the veggie treats or barley treats too. They are nice small sizes so you can just give one and the bunny is quite happy.

She’s a talker. Sammy grunts. It always comes as a surprise to bunny slaves that they do make sounds, just not more often like cats, dogs and birds. It can be very quiet, but after years I got to know Spockie so well that I could hear him behind a chair across a room when he was grooming because he made little grunting noises.

Chacha has enormous chubby cheeks that I want to squeeze

She doesn’t grunt much, only if I approach her as she hops to my room (and my door is closed) and realizes that the door is closed. She’ll see me, get on her hind legs and attempt to box and grunt at me . Otherwise she usually honks at me…. she loves me

Stickers grunts when i’m being bad (in her area, getting near her, picking her up, ya know… annoying her highness). Some bunnies are vocal.

There is no love for me from Nova. Honestly, I have no idea how I caught her in the first place! I can barely catch her now, even with the promise of tons of food.

Now I was well aware that rabbits could scream. It is the worst sound on the planet, one that Nova did for almost a whole minute the first time I caught her. Honestly, I thought she was going to die from shock. Obviously she didn’t.

Nova is very loud when she grooms herself, which she seems to do all the time. I guess that is where I have noticed it the most. Like I said, it is probably because she got fat so it takes more effort to reach those places.

KytKattin – my bun grunts a lot when grooming too. She’s not a chubby girl, but she did have a touch of head tilt and I also think it’s because it takes her a lot of effort to reach behind her to groom 🙂 She wont let me near her either…so I enjoy her cuteness from a distance and hug my other bun twice as much

Mine only grunts when he is irritated, otherwise he is silent, unless he is knocking stuff to the floor.

Huckleberry grunts pretty frequently. If she is doing something she isn’t supposed to do, and we tell her “No” and shoo her away, she often turns, grunts and boxes.
She hums a lot. I hear little “umph umph humph” noises when she runs.
It could be that they are all overweight. My vet is always on me about making Huckles loose weight. She is 12 lbs but doesn’t look fat imo. In fact, she hardly has a dew lap anymore!

She does have different grunts for different things. There is the “I am super unhappy that you are trying to catch me even though it means I get delicious foodstuffs” grunt. Then there is the “I am grooming myself and can just barely reach this spot” grunt. Finally there is the “I am working super hard to dig through *insert here* and am exhausted by my progress” grunt.

If Nova has a dew lap, and I think she does, that means she is fat. Polish are not supposed to have them, and I noticed just the tiniest little roll yesterday. On the other hand, that might be from her losing weight. Oh well, there goes my show quality rabbit. *sarcasm*
