I noticed there are pinecone treats for sale in the store for rabbits.

I also noticed that the trees at college shed pinecones… A LOT.

Can I give my bunny the clean looking (sap-free) cones off the trees?

The trees give away the cones for free.

        The store does not.

I let my bunny stiff a pinecone (I collect them, dont ask) and she grabbed onto it like it was a hunk of gold, but then I took it away because I dint want her to actually consume it.

As long as the pine cone is dried out and free of treatments it’s okay My bunnies like them.

If the tree hasn’t been treated with any kind of pesticides as well. Don’t use the cones if it has.

Make sure the cones are FULLY dried as well.

I think you have to sterilize them somehow, and to get the sap off.

I don’t know how you would do this though, I know for rabbit safe trees you have to dry out some of them and others like willow can be baked in the oven or frozen to kill any bugs or stuff.

Yes it is okay to chew on pine corns but I’m not sure about eating them. About two years ago, I gave my rabbit, Romeo, a pine corn and he ate it without playing with it. I stopped him and threw it out. Romeo didn’t chew much, he just swallow some part of pine corn. I was afraid if he will chock himself

It is okay for them to eat the pine cone, as long as like Monkeybun said, they are completely dried out.

I was wanting to collect some pinecones for my bunnies but over the past couple of years the pine trees in my area have been hit badly by pine blight. So I’m hesitant.
