so i’ve good and bad things about this brand,. i’ve heard people saying that the ingredients have changed and there are some corn additives or something in it? also i’ve heard that people have lost rabbits due to this food. (not sure how but thats what they say) and i’ve also heard good things about it like their rabbits coat was super shiny and that their rabbits love it. i am not planning on showing my rabbit. also i know its alfalfa based, is it THAT bad? i mean i will only give my rabbit 1/8 – 1/4 of a cup daily and let him out whenever i am home so he can get lots of exercise. but is this a good brand of rabbit food? also, how will i transition the food the rescue is giving him to a different brand? will i have to buy the brand that he is currently on and then later transition? thanks

I wouldn’t feed that to your bun, it is meant for rabbitry rabbits (breeding and such) so it is way too high in carbs/fat/calcium and all that stuff for a house rabbit. You want a TIMOTHY based pellet for an adult bun, just plain old pellets, no fancy seeds or colored junk added. Also, purina is not exactly good quality, it’s just cheap (and large bags go bad too fast for a single house bunny). Try oxbow, or one of the other high quality timothy pellets.

When switching a rabbit from one food to another, it’s best to do it gradually and mix the old food with the new until you can totally leave out the old.

Purina Complete looks ok, its a little high in protien, but the rest looks ok-
            Crude Protein (Min)……………………………………………. 16.00%
            Crude Fat (Min)…………………………………………………. 1.50%
            Crude Fiber (Min)………………………………………………. 17.00%
            Crude Fiber (Max)……………………………………………… 20.00%
            Calcium (Ca) (Min)…………………………………………….. .60%
            Calcium (Ca) (Max)……………………………………………. 1.10%
            Phosphorus (P) (Min)………………………………………….. .40%
            Salt (NaCl) (Min)……………………………………………….. .50%
            Salt (NaCl) (Max) ……………………………………………… 1.00%
            Vitamin A (Min)…………………………………………………. 4650 IU/lb

How old is the rabbit you’re adopting? If he’s older than about 6 months, he needs a timothy based pellet, not an alfalfa based. Even if he’s out 100% of the time, its still too fatty.
Ask the rescue for a couple cups of the current food, and transition over a week, doing 75/25 for 2 days, 50/50 for 2 days, 25/75 for 2 days, then 0/100
