so apparently i am EXTREMELY allergic to timothy hay (now that i think of it, it makes sense. cause i touched timothy hay and then touched my face and i couldnt breathe ._.) anyway can rabbits eat perennial rye hay? thats the only hay im not allergic to. i am mildly allergic to bermuda and bahia, can rabbits eat those? the rest, i am severely allergic to.

Rye grass should be ok, but I’ve never seen it sold anywhere. Bermuda is ok as well, but again I’ve never seen it :/

If you’re that allergic that your throat closes up to Timothy, I imagine that Orchard grass, would start an allergic reaction as well, although maybe not as dire?

well i’ve had timothy hay before and i dont REMEMBER getting a reaction or anything but i went to the allergist a few weeks and i got tested for a lot of things and i was allergic to all but one grass (rye), and i got a 18 for timothy (worst than the cat and i am very allergic to cats). and i went to this pet store a couple weeks ago and i had this HORRIBLE reaction that i’ve never had before, and i remember touching some timothy hay and touching my face after wards and i guess that means im very allergic to timothy hay? it could have been the rabbit or guinea pig (although i’ve never had any reaction around them) so it must be the hay

I googled and it seems rye is often fed to horses -so I would for me, find that enough as a ‘go’ to use it. As you have a severe allergy I think it’s imperative you find something you can use. You could certainly phone a vet and ask too.

Even if you aren’t allergic to it, if you are prone to allergies I would suggest what others on the forum do who are allergic-using a mask and gloves to feed it. Then wash your hands-if you develop an allergy to it-I’m not sure what you’d do then!

yeah it might be smart to take extra precautions. i’ve never been around bermuda hay (although my dad says that we have bermuda grass growing in the front yard, and i always help out after he mows the lawn and i’ve never reacted.. but i dont know ha) i would feed them ryegrass but i cant find it anywhere! /: oh well. bermuda will be okay! (hopefully)

Where did you find bermuda? I might want to try some as well
